bump
is that all the 40K players we have here?????
so how many people have splurged on forgeworld special kits?
if the valkyries weren't so darn expensive i would consider doing an elysian drop-troop guard army.
I play Khorne/Nurgle Chaos in WH Fantasy. If I played 40k I'd do Sisters of Battle/Witch Hunters, but I'm going to go with Warmachine instead - so much cheaper, just because it's a smaller scale game.
Im mainly playing imperial guard right now, i have space marines and eldar collecting dust somewhere, and im painting up an Alpha Legion force force for some variety right now.

i was considering flames of war for much the same reason(well that and i am a big history nut so the WWII setting appealed to me). but it is much easier to find a game of 40K than it is any of the others.

There's hardly any wargamers in my hometown that I'd want to play with beyond immediate friends, and my best friend and I both decided to pick up Warmachine at the same time. The other friends will likely follow soon enough, heh.

Alpha legion:So much fun having an infiltrating force in power armour!
Indeed...the same applies to an all infiltrating death guard.
The Black Serpents

You didn't include Tyranids, so I did my secondary army: Dark Angels Space Marines.
Franziskonia
19-05-2005, 13:06
Sisters of Battle and Imperial Guard.
And I recently sold my few thousand points of Blood Angels. Couldn't see them anymore after 12 years. Meh.
Red East

Blood Angels: Playable, but still a small force. I can't see myself completing it in the near future neither. :(
Tau: about 2k-2.5k Horribly painted since I was in a hurry. I will most probably repain all of them soon.
Daemonhunters: Started it in late february, about 1.5k points. Some 75% painted.
I am, however, more into WHFB where I play with a 6-8k Dark Elf army. I have a smaller High Elf fore as well. Just waiting for the new Wood Elves *drools*
That's basically it.

Huge Black Legion force, strangely without any Terminators... built more like a Khorne/Word Bearers army (yes, really). About 3.5k points. Got some Orkses as well, only 500 or so as I've just started. I'm not sure whether I prefer 40K or Fantasy... I prefer the background of 40K, with the gothic biblical imagery.
Permisse Galaxium Exurere! (I think)

Don't really play anymore, but I used to be a Nid player mainly with chaos, IG and Eldar tendencies :p

I play the Eldar.
My older son plays Tau and younger son plays Orcs. :D

BAck when i played my armies were as follows:
Space amrines: custom chapter the "Grey Stars" beginner army, not 3rd edt compatable
Imp guard: 2 armies one mechanised one mostly foot
Chaos: 1 huge big army or 1 large khorne force and one largish undevided
chaos cultists: huge army never really painted (mostly nercromunda gangers)
orks: medium sized army about 2-3k points...
Also one large mixed imperial army for Spacemarine/epic
German Nightmare
19-05-2005, 15:32
Got a Space Marine Chapter with about 350 models (don't know what would equal to pointswise) including 40+ Terminators, 20+ Jump Packers, 20+ Assault Marines, 30+ Devestators, 20+ scouts and a shitload of "normal" Space Marines. Mostly unpainted, though... Many of which are still the good old lead figures, the real old plastics (even before metal) and those of previous editions... ;)
I've got a whole bunch of Nurgle troops as well, including 3 Greater Demons and 21 of those Plaguebearers. Couple of Chaos Termis, Yet again, mostly unpainted...
My Imperial Guard is a mixture of Catachan Djunglefighters and Necromunda Orlocks.
The Orks I have are mostly 2nd edition Orks and Gretchins, some even taken from the SpaceHulk variant (by MB) SpaceQuest, a 40K boardgame. Number more than 100. Orks can't count, though - and me neither when it comes to those greenskins.
I still have some 30+ Genestealers and a nice bunch of those really old "Alien"-style hormagaunts - I always wanted to make them look like the aliens from the movies...
Besides that, there's still a box of those 30+ plastic knights and a bunch of troops from Warhammer which I wanted to paint... like that's ever going to happen!!!
I forgot to mention that almost half of the Space Marines are Space Wolves type which I assembled into a successor chapter!

Only one, Imperial, tank and transport centered. 2.5k. It kicks some ass.
Sanctum Imperialis

Sisters of Battle are my primary army. With the Cannoness, Inquistor, Celestines, Seraphim, Pentient Engines and an Exorcist oh my.
I also have a large Black Legion force lead by Abanddon. He is my hero.
And I also have a small Eldar army I want to build up.

Amyst
that sucks, fortunately i am in an area with several game stores and a ton of players.
The Black Serpents
i ran out of options so i am keeping a mental tally...thats 2 for nids
Alpha legion:So much fun having an infiltrating force in power armour!
infiltrate? i laugh at your pitiful attempt to hide :D
i play a deathwing force of 31 terminators and 2 dreadnaughts, i almost always deepstrike 30 terminators(and i have a teleport homer).....it always makes for an interesting game no matter where my opponant sets up.
German Nightmare
a nice bunch of those really old "Alien"-style hormagaunts - I always wanted to make them look like the aliens from the movies...
actually i saw a guy who did that, customed his entire army, his hive tyrant was a queen. it was beautiful to behold.
last grand tournament we had a guard player do a WWII russian themed force, and another do a mostly infantry WWII 8th army US force. really nicely done.
i always wanted to do a WWII themed panzergrenadier company out of steel legion imperial guard(iron fist squads) with chimera transports and sentinels.
Sableonia
good job getting them addicted....bad that you probably have to foot the bill for all thier models ;)

i play Dark Eldar anmd Lizardmen and i also have 5 full Mordheim warbands (admitedly some of those models are pulled fomr my lizardmen army and DE army) increasing amount of disregard for their customers and vetern players i cant see myself playing at all now.
also the increasing amount of rules stacked in space marines favour and obvious change in marketing towards space marines looks like a despirate ploy to gain a younger audience with tweens who have their hands deep in their overworking parents pockets. it saddens me that such great tabletop wargame set such as warhammer has fallen to people only interested in the money and not the wargaming... but it is the same with many thigns in our world i suppose.
if only citadel hadnt sold out to games workshop (who then only made white dwarf and had no real say in anything to do with the hobby) we would have a much better system, much better set out rule books, properly tested rulesets so that you dont have to ring up the helpdesk everytiem you play, and so you dont have to buy another damn "rulebook" update every 6 months...
anyway my rant is over.

Just out of interest does anyone else have the really old GamesWorkshop Judge Dredd board game?
Or the entire set of MB spin off games? Space crusade, heroquest and Battlemasters all good sources for conversion peices the chaos dreadnaughts from sapce crusade and its expansions are a fantastic starting point for learning conversions and if anyone moans about them not beign proper dreads, you cna alaewys direct them towards the original epic chaos dreadnaughts...
Oh and anyone play BFG?

i'm gonna have to disagree with pretty much everything you said.
space marines have always been a mainstay of the 40K universe. that being said, the rules are most definately not stacked in thier favor. no one army is any better than the person designing and playing it. right now the only new 4.0 codex out is for the space marines, so i can see how you may think the rules changes favor them, but the next one is for nids and so on. all of them contain tweeks and changes to go along with the new edition.
also after playing with the new rules, i find them much easier to use than the old ones. they were designed to streamline gameplay and they work well(much better than the 150+ pages of fantasy rules).
we have only run into a few minor rules questions left over from the changes in editions and mostly with a certain friend of mine who is rules lawyers.
Stop Banning Me Mods:
necrons can do very well if played right. again with 40K it really depends on what you want in the army and what you want it to do. the whole orb of "i get back up" is a real pain in the arse. it's like having all the goodness of normal space marines with an added invul save against everything.
I play a Slaanesh-themed custom chapter: the Dreadlords. With possibly one of the least Slaaneshi colour schemes ever. Dark green with gold trim and deep purple shoulder plates. The only problem is finding an opponent, and this has resulted in massively declining interest.
I also play a Lizardmen army in Fantasy Battles.

I play about 750 pts of Tau in 40k, and 2,500 pts of High Elves in Warhammer Fantasy. I'm thinking of starting Tzeench Chaos.

Oh and anyone play BFG?
I have bits of Ork and Eldar fleets, but don't play that much any more. I would make a HL2 Combine Overwatch themed IG army (Storm Troopers and Hardened Veterans in carapace armour...) but I'll never get round to it, seeing how to get into the store I have to push through hordes of 13-something kids.
Sigh.
i dont actually play warhammer 40k yet since it is too expensive and i dont have the time, plus noone around here plays so there wouldnt be much competition. i have been very interested in it tho for a while, i love the story line, ultimate theocratic authoritarianism is awesome! i have read many of the books and own several of the computer games too, the Dawn of War is a really good one. its one of the best RTSs I have ever played. highly recommended.
Eldar are the best for me.

Heh, as I told the thread starter, a friend and I just picked up Warmachine. Got the core rulebook (Prime), and I got a Menoth battlegroup box whereas he picked up the Cygnar box. Have yet to play, but we're all assembled and just waiting for the chance to get together and go at it.
