I just read this article about programs that can be set to skip or delete explcit content on DVD's. Well to say the least I am stunned at the ignorance of Society. Why in first place would you watch a movie with explicit content in it, if yoiu didn't want to see it? If you filter it, then your not seeing that movie, your seeing a watered down easy to digest version made for fearful people. These are the same people that want to control the the entire media so everyone has to watch these "watered down" monstrosities, and so they can raise their kids to be as close-minded and naive as they are.

Well to me it sounds like a heaping steamy pile of bullshit. And i'm not going to edit that because if you honestly are offended by the word bullshit, you are officially a whiney little baby.

But please, feel free to comment to tell my why "jesus" doesn't approve of immoral movies, or people who curse on message boards...

It's just more Puritan "you live by our rules, or else" bullshit.

People feel they have a "moral obligation". They see what they're doing as "right" I suppose. Go figure.

I agreed with you until this. That, sir, is trolling. Kindly make your point without the insults.

I am sorry to argue with a mod, but I don't see how he is insulting.

When they censor movies, it's a violation of the 1st ammendment. When they allow it to happen, it is a blasphemy.

Don't censor my damn movies!

deliberatly inciting angry responses from either religious types or those that have strong 'moral values' as they see them.

Also known as trolling.

Not to mention the FCC, which violates god-knows-how-many rights...

What do you care? If some people want to watch a movie that happens to have a few scenes they don't care to watch but which they otherwise enjoy, who are you to object on the grounds of it being an assault on your own freedom to watch the entire movie? The article says it's about "sanitized" versions of movies, and DVD players that themselves skip the material. Sounds to me like nobody's pushing anything on you - the full movie's still available. Now you just have Full Screen, Wide Screen, and "Sanitized". It's not doing you any harm.

Look dude, chill out first. These movies are not the only versions sold of the original movie. If you don't want to watch these watered down movies, then DON'T. No one is forcing you to do so, and the copyright violation situation has already been covered in court. Stop lashing out at people for their religious beliefs and CALM DOWN. All you're doing is trolling.

I think that altering a movie for resale is obvious censorship - but giving someone the ability to custom edit the movie they are about to watch is merely providing a choice. It's a lame choice, but a choice none the less.

Is it really censorship if the individual viewer has complete control over what gets edited out?

Agreed here!

PS: I didn't know you were a moderator! Heck, on another site, I made friends with a guy, didn't go on for over six months, went back there a week ago and found out he was made a moderator while I was away :D

Software that edits DVD's... That's just stupid! If someone takes exception to the content of a given movie, they can simply not watch it. All the trampling of the 1st Amendment... makes me sick i tell ya!!

While this article only provides examples of features allowing movies to be watered down, both Wal-Mart and Blockbuster have admitted to watering down movies without labeling as such. This is not a given choice, this is being unable to watch any movie without it being family friendly.

Not to mention that Wal-Mart already does that with music, though they never say anything about it.

As someone who has accidentally bought an edited CD from Wal-Mart, they have a sign on the label that states that the CD is edited. Look closer next time.

My bad. I guess they put them in certain spots so you won't notice them.

It's cool. That part isn't very noticeable, but it is there.

I don't buy CD's anyway, and if I did, I definitely wouldn't buy them from Wal-Mart.

I think it's perfectly acceptable. No one is making you watch the edited version, it's compleatly your choice. Sure, some of the meaning of the movie probaly would be taken away... but it's your decision.

What is the big deal? Are you offended that the movies won't have the same "artistic vision" as they were intended to have? Do we forget that movies are butchered in the editing room and are usually nothing like the director's original idea. As long as they don't force movies to be pre-edited before sale, no one is forcing you to watch a censored movie. It's not censorship if it's optional.

The FCC, on the other hand.... I won't touch that issue with a 10 foot pole.
