Seeing as Michael Howard has effectively announced his intention to step down, I have a question for all of you. What do you think the Conservative party would be like with Boris Johnson as their party leader?

EDIT: For Americans who dont know who he is, here is his web blog

Spot on. No matter how hard I try not to, I just can't help but like the bumbling fool.

True, but you'd never elect him as PM - so he's *perfect* as tory leader.

Yes! Boris all the way!

Come on, if the Conservatives are going to be unelectable, they may as well cause a chuckle while they're there.

The obvious downside would be the demise of Bremner Bird & Fortune - half the show would just be turned over to the News.

Yay! Boris would rock as Tory Leader. As he'd provide entertainment in Parlimet and on the election campaign and completely alienate the Tory Electoral Base! Perfect! Parfait! Perfekt!

Plus if he actually got into power he would bankrupt Britain by actually keeping his electoral promises. Remember the Coconut business on Have I Got News For You?

"What's my line on drugs? I've forgotten my line on drugs!" - Boris Johnson, during an interview while out campaigning for this year's election.

That was fantastic. They should bring him back as a host. Nothing gets done the way it should, but by God it's funny.

Boris should definitely be the new tory leader. I want to be entertained by party leaders.

His campaign slogan should be "Let Me Entertain You!" most definitely.

Having seen him in an interview, I second that sentiment. With him leading the Tories, who would need a Loony Party? :D

Well its good to see he's already got over 90% of the NS vote. If only NS was the Tory party membership...

OK, with Boris and Charlie heading the Tories and Lib Dems, who do we get for Labour to complete the showbiz set?

Actually I would not cross Boris Johnson. He is supposed to be very clever and very subtle according to Private Eye (and remember Ian Hislop edits that magazine, the man who takes the pee out of Johnson if he is ever on Have I Got News For You).

In my experience, people who are bumbling fools do not get jobs editing The Spectator or as being a Vice-Chairman of the Conservative Party.

But he does have dim moments.
And that pose with his tennis racket...or the photo with him on his bike....

But that drugs thing is pure realism. Does anyone know what the Tory policy on drugs ended up being?

*Snip*Agreed; I just think that sometimes he's unable to properly articulate himself verbally. Perhaps he also makes a point of paradying himself, who knows? I do think he's intelligent, but I also think some of his gaffs are hilarious. I do have a soft-spot for him, whatever the case :)

That just sums him up....bumbling fool. I love it in the Times how he was quoted on saying

"Hello, i'm your MP, oh gosh, actually no, i'm your candidate"

You have to love him.
