Back in 1980, the great minds behind future 'classics' such as 'Breakin' 2: electric boogaloo" and the "Death Wish" sequels made a futuristic musical called "The Apple". It's one of those movies that airs on Encore at about 3AM and if you're one of the insomniacs who catches it, you're stuck in the two-sided camp of 'I love it...it's so bad its good' and 'wow, this sucks'.
Basically, picture the story of Adam and Eve...in the music industry. Instead of Adam and Eve, call them "Alphie" (George Gilmour, in his ONLY film performance) and "Bibi" (Catherine Mary Stewart) -- two clean-cut kids from Moosejaw who decide to enter in an international music competition...in the far-off future of 1994 and catch the eye of an evil music promoter (Vladek Sheybal) who is more than he appears. This off-the-wall Cannon Films production has everything...glitter, hippies, bad music, bad acting, bad direction and gives its own drug-fueled view of God as a guy who drives a rolls royce from the sky. I can't honestly place this movie in ONE single genre...it's a futuristic musical with sci-fi and religious undertones thrown in. If you're a b movie lover who loves a good laugh, I'd check out the apple.
