Taking a quick break from studying la langue francaise, I decided to pop in and get an update on how my favourite forum (ok, I admit it...my ONLY forum) is going? News? Updates?

Tais-toi! Je comprende plus que je puex parler, mais je n'ai pas etudier francais depuis dix ans. DIX ANS!

So basically, this is a very painful class for me right now. My head aches dully every waking moment, and in the night, I am plagued by monsters who have thick Parisian accents. I can't even speak English right now without a French accent, and I swear, I'm not putting it on intentionally...it's just THERE!

Hey, you know what I think is kind of weird? In French, Spanish, and English, RIGHTS are referred to as...well...RIGHTS...not LEFTS. Why? Why is there this connection between right (I assume politically) and rights? And why does 'tres gauche' (very left) mean someone has no manners or has done something socially akward? What kind of right-wing conspiracy is this that has us IN OUR LANGUAGE connect right-wing with liberty, when so often this is NOT the case? WHY? Derechos...droites....rights.....I say we rename them, izquierdas, gauches, lefts...

Sigh. I can understand pretty much everything, but as with all languages, the hardest stage is figuring out how to construct sentences of your own. At least I know this route, so I don't get too frustrated...the problem is, when learning a new language, you have to accept that you start with baby talk, despite the sophistification of fluency in your native languages. You have to dumb down your concepts...or, distill them, rather (sounds nicer) in order to create coherence, and it's an exhausting process. It is always easier to resort to English (and less time consuming), but certainly does not aide you in your language learning.

I'm pretty screwed up right now...I am even typing with an accent (that only I can hear in my head), and I notice that my syntax is somewhat different than normal, but the problem is, I am thinking in a polyglot of languages...some Spanish, some French, some Cree, and some English, and right now they are all swirling around in my brain trying to find a safe place to land in order to comingle, breed, separate and form little monolingual tribes that may one day form complex trading routes and cultural agreements, but for the moment are too interested in the breeding and rampaging to think so far ahead. Entendez-moi?

Don't worry about the accent, we Brittish do accents all the time. Why bother going to all the trouble of learning a whole langauge when all you simply need to do is attempt an accent and speak loudly :D

If you'll excuse my English (I REALLY don't want to bother trying to speak French right now), it's cuz of French's connection to Latin. It has long been though that left equals bad. In fact, in Latin the word for left is sinister. I'm not joking. Back then, they thought left-handed children were cursed by Satan and they forced then to learn to write (or if they were a peasant, shovel cow dung) with their right hands.

My personal analysis is that it's Aristotle's fault. Under the Aristotelian, people generally believed that mankind on the whole was good. Thus, if nineteen out of every twenty kids born were right handed, they would assume that right handedness was good. Thus, left handedness was bad.

Je pense que c'est impossible etudier pour parler bien une langue. Nous avons besoin de parler avec context...j'ai la grammatique mais je veux parler avec les gens francophones. Anyway...struggling to make a freaking sentence here...that's how I learned Spanish...I got the basic grammatical background, and then I went forth and screwed my way into fluency.:)

Seriously, in french we use left and right as direction and as political view. I dunno what you ment exacly... Also, the only way I can see "gauche" used as a bad qualification, is if you mean someone lack motrice hability (awkward). It probably come from the fact that most people are not as skilled when they use theire left hand...

And we use left and right as directions and political views in English and Spanish too (but oddly enough, not in Cree...in fact, there is no Cree word for 'rights'. They just ARE...they didn't need to be defined).

Don't get me wrong, I love Spanish and Spain - I was very impressed by Barcelona and Madrid and the Spaniards. Really awesome. But somehow France attracts me more. Don't know really why.

I'm just boredly popping in after my French course, and replying as I quickly do a bit of research on French language laws in Canada. Then, je vais retourner chez nous and I shall forget all about you:) (Nice rhyme, no?)

'Cuz you ain't Canadian, where French is crammed down our unwilling anglophone throats:) My hubby loves French too, and I just think it's a pain in the arse, considering not that many people worldwide speak it compared to Spanish, or hell, Mandarin...

I see. Well, I'm German (suprise!). France is basically next door and should be a nice place for vacation or travel (insert dumb republican redneck-style joke about conquering here).

Heck, I'd might even sign on for French classes at evening school just for kicks. Won't hurt to learn another language, right?
