Assume Bush could be replaced (for whatever reason) by a former GOP president or presidential candidate from the list on the poll (wait for it).
Which one would you most like to see, and why?

Theodore Roosevelt. We're talking fantasyland here, but Teddy Roosevelt had the right idea when dealing with his era's terrorists-some Americans had been kidnapped (I don't remembr where...) and his response was "You have three days, hostages returned alive, or kidnappers brought in dead." (this was to the nation which the hostages were visiting at the time.)
Roosevelt busted a couple of major monopolies, negotiated an end to a large-scale strike at home, built the Panama Canal (okay, so he didn't actually build or dig anything, but he made it happen. The Panama Canal was the Moon project of the early nineteen hundereds) and he favoured an "America First" trade and foreign policy.
People who hate Bush for the current foreign policy would Despise TR's.
OTOH, he handled the Coal strike without shooting anyone (remarkably progressive, given the times) and he established a number of protections for workers that didn't quite survive the Wilson era.
Of course, that's presuming the Necromancer that raised the man didn't mess with his soul.
Living ex-presidents would probably have to be Gerry Ford (Mister Veto), and ex-candidates might be someone like Steve Forbes (Buchanan lost me when he walked out in a snit and joined the Perotistas.)

That defines virtually any politician of any party, currently in or seeking office. some are simply more handicapped in doing their dirty work than others. Bill Clinton was acceptably petty and ineffective enough that he couldn't do as much damage as he wanted to, same for Reagan. GW is probably better handicapped than Al Gore would have been (and I read Al's book, it scared me. I have no use for Envirofascists with massive influence in positions of power.)
Kerry had too much influence to be safe, esp. given his voting record in the senate, and his past treasons. (even when one is not charged, treason is treason.)
I wish the Democrats could find a Scoop Jackson in their ranks to run. Alas, the Moderate-to-conservative branch of that party has little to no influence, leaving us the American version of the Radical Left, or the American version of the Radical right as choices. Neither is particularly palatable. :P

What's the GOP done for you, since Reagan?
Open your eyes, there's an entire world of choice out there. Explore, before Spanish becomes our official language, and the minimum wage is abolished.
Here's an option (http://www.constitutionparty.com/) for you.
I'd say Goldwater out of the list you provided. Before he died, he even said that this new version of the Republican party was too far right for him. He never thought he'd become a liberal in his party. Although I prefer Rockefeller myself. He was a good man.

Ditto. I'm a strong supporter of good ol' Teddy.

Teddy. Definitely.
