Not only that, but it's 3 words. "Do over again."

actually its 2 words, you both got it wrong its Déjà vu, (cept for the english translation of course)

personally Presque vu and Jamais vu are much cool.

Someone experiencing presque vu will say that they have something "on the tip of their tongue". Often very disorienting and distracting, presque vu rarely leads to an actual breakthrough.

Jamais vu is used to describe any familiar situation which is not recognized by the observer. Often described as the opposite of déjà vu, jamais vu involves a sense of eeriness and the observer's impression of seeing the situation for the first time, despite rationally knowing that he or she has been in the situation before.

both Presque vu and Jamais vu, if experienced often can be signs of epilepsy.

just curious, how is fop an insult? I just know it as being someone who is obsessed with their appearance...

oh, and wop is pretty common, at least in the Northeast...it used to refer to any immigrant (it stands for "without papers", and was used at Ellis Island, popular mostly when Italians were emmigrating). Go figure something so tame becomes offensive.

Hey! We should have a thread like this all the time, to enhance our collective verbal-intellect.

My favourite word at the moment is "****," used purely to refer to genitalia. I think it's degrading to women to use a vagina as an insult to someone. I used to find the c-word so obscene and upsetting, and now that I "own" it, I'm proud to use it (the word, I mean - not the vagina. I ain't poppin' out no snotlings just yet!) I think that taking ownership of a term like that deflates its status as a man's swear-word. I think it's nice to be able to be proud of a word that incites such an emotional response, but it must be used sparingly.

I currently like the rhythm of such words as Gethsemane, synapse, cobalt, piffle, and 5-hydroxy-tryptophan.

"Järjestelmällistyttämättömyydellänsäkään" is perfectly understandable Finnish. Those long English words suffer from being Neo-Latin and thus not decipherable to the uninitiated. This isn't.

The fairly nonsensical negation of this, "epäjärjestelmällistyttämättömyydellänsäkään", is the longest "non-artificial" word. Of course, I could make up compound words like neliväriarkkirotaatiolaakaoffsetpainokonemekaanikko-oppisopimuskoulutusjärjestelmätilastovirhearvio, but that's just an unusual convention to write these together, as they don't obey word-internal rules such as vowel harmony. The one above does, and is truly a single word.

(I tend to misspell it "järjestelmällistyttämättömyydelläänsäkään", and I think that's because of a dialect.)

In English, there are these words that save an explanation, though: mullet, pun, caucus.
