I'm Lutheran but only 14. I'm confused with the whole agnostic-evangelical thing. Are they opposites? What do they mean?

What's an agnostic-evangelical?

I can define agnostic for you (as I think of it):

1.) A person who believes that they do not know whether a deity exists or not
2.) A person who believes nobody will ever know whether a deity exists or not

Probably should have put a comma instead of a hyphen. I was asking the difference between agnostics and evangelicals. Thanks for telling me the meaning of agnostic as you see it, though.

An evangelical is someone you see on TV saying, "JESUS SAVES! Join our ministry today and you will recieve these beautifully crafted leather bound bible hand stiched by children on the streets of Manilla, for a one time donation of $59.95!"

Evangelicals also have a tendency to say things like unless you accept Jesus Christ into your heart you will burn in hell, which makes thise Jesus guy sound like a bit of a mean joker.

JESUS: Did you accept me into your heart?
MAN: I was brought up in Morroco. We were taught that you were one of the prophets, but not that salvation could only be gained through you. That's what we were always taught.
JESUS: Tough, you should have tuned in to the bible hour on cable TV. I'm afraid it's off to hell for you, my swarthy friend.

I think these two Wikipedia articles do a good job of explaining. (Evangelicals aren't what Phylum Chordata said, but Cumulo Nimbusland's definition of agnostic is pretty good.)

Agnostic-Evangelist? Ah my friend! That's a code-name for a really bad acid trip!

DUDE 1: Dude, what was with you yesterday?
DUDE 2: Man, I pulled an Agnostic-Evangelist...I'll never touch that shit again...

Huh? According to the definition on Wikipedia the guy on TV is an evangelical. Although I admit I could have provided a clearer explanation...

I thought the bit about savalvation only through Jesus pretty much included a broad swathe of everyone who is an evangelical.

Yeah, my understanding was that he was a Prophet, but not the Messiah....
