(Filed: 12/05/2005)

1928 Born Rochester, NY, into an Jewish family.

1980 Fought his five sisters through the courts over the contents of his mother's will.

1984 First attempted takeover bid. Tried to purchase the bankrupt US Conrail system for $7.6 billion, but failed.

1988 Unsuccessful attempt to buy company that manufactures Formica table and workshop materials.

1989 Failed in his attempt to buy prestigious motorcycle company Harley-Davidson.

1995 Bought Tampa Bay Buccaneers NFL gridiron franchise for $192 million. Sacked coach Sam Wyche at end of regular season.

2003 Spent a record $8 million to lure coach Jon Gruden from the Oakland Raiders. Gamble was rewarded in months as Tampa won the Superbowl. Started to build up his stake in Manchester United. Failed in bid to buy Los Angeles Dodgers baseball team.

2004 Increased his stake in United to 28.11 per cent. Had an initial approach rebuffed but used his shareholding to vote certain directors off the Old Trafford board. Bankers JP Morgan and PR advisors Brunswick immediately withdrew their support

2005 Glazer's 'detailed' proposals were described as 'aggressive' and 'potentially damaging' to the long-term future of the club by the board. He was given deadline by the Takeover Panel to make a formal bid. On May 12, the takeover looked inevitable as he completed the £790.3 million purchase of shares previously owned by Irish racing tycoons JP McManus and John Magnier

I'm not Man Utd fan, in fact I'm more a critic, and in this take over i think they have a bit of their own medicine.

They brought big business to the Premiership, and now big business has bought them. You see their fans proclaiming that Man Utd are not for sale, but if you have shares on the stock market as Man Utd has, you are always for sale.

I don't like Glazer taking them over, he is more likely to destroy Man Utd than make them better, especially with the debts he has brought to the club.

They'll never fuck off, because they don't care who owns the club; they just want to see a football team more famous than Jesus.

I don't like Glazer taking them over, he is more likely to destroy Man Utd than make them better, especially with the debts he has brought to the club.

He also seems hell bent on destroying the traditional system of football in this country, by attempting to raise Man U. above the other clubs, with financial clout alone. The top clubs already try to put too much pressure on the FA, but this would be one step too far:

"A bid to sell Manchester United's TV rights separately is seen as an integral part of why Glazer is staging a £790m takeover at Old Trafford."
Full Story (http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/eng_prem/4548705.stm)

Joint TV rights is what keeps the lower placed teams alive in the league, which in turn keeps the league alive. If Man U. wants to be separate from this, then perhaps they should be in a separate league. On their own.

Heck, he's just working on precedent (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Roman_Abramovich).

As a Leeds fan, I could have told you this a while ago ;)

Heck, he's just working on precedent (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Roman_Abramovich).

I wasn't talking about on the pitch. Abramovich is trying to put money into chelsea, in order to run it as a business in a way football clubs have always been run. He hasn't challenged the way the club is to do business.

Glazer seems only concerned with getting money out of the club. And if that means screwing the league, I dont think he's too bothered. He thinks that he should be free to do whatever he likes, as if making money is all that football should be about: touting his own brand while beating down competitors, until they can no longer stay in business. Of course, if that does happen, he's out of business.

I'm a Man Utd fan, and I couldn't agree with you more. Glazer is monopolizing on what Utd has done for the last 25+ years.

I don't like Glazer taking them over, he is more likely to destroy Man Utd than make them better, especially with the debts he has brought to the club.

I don't like him taking them over either, I also agree that his debt is going to bring down the club financially and possibly let a richer club such as Real Madrid steal the financial spotlight. I do believe Glazer is trying to set himself up to rid his debt through the use of Man Utd's lucrative financial standing, but it wouldn't surprise me in the least bit to see this backfire horribly watching both Glazer and United fall into debt far worse than what has been projected.

...I'm willing to bet it's not coincidental that it came out just at this moment in time, to be honest.

I don't know if you guys have read this or not. It's quite funny. Written by NorrisGreen_Red (Some Liverpool fan) pretending to be M.Glazer.

Dear Soccer fans,

As you all know, I've been looking to buy the United's of Manchester for a
little while now. I've also heard that some of you may not be too happy
bout me using, sorry, buying the club in order to reach new heights and
also, that I may not be a fan. Well fear not, as I'm writing this personal
letter to let you know that I'm a genuine fan of you blue devils. I began
rooting for the United's back in 1992 when our little Malcolm JR was
practising those Soccer home runs out the yard. I loved the way you turned
defence into offence, and the way that Bobby Shearer used to top half it
into the goal bag. Oh man, that play was hot. My son tells me that you
even out-zoned your City rivals Southampton in the 4th quarter of the FA
World series.

As for your current team, that Rude guy is awesome!!!! I see a profitable
future at the United, with the young talent of Cristiano Rooney (man, that
guy can dance!) and Peter Shilton giving us hope in defeating the evil
Russian tyranny which assaults the freedom of our beloved Soccer. With the
marketing potential of those Neville brothers and that Pearce dude leading
the team, we can all look to achieving our beliefs of a better future.
Especially when I add Alexei Lalas and Cobi Jones to the starting 15.

Now to you, the fans. I've been to see the United's play once before, and
the respect you pay your team in silently admiring the play out on the
pitch was overwhelming. Because of this, I've just purchased a new £45
million mansion in the Manchester to be close to you guys. And more good
news is I'm planning to add an extra 10,000 seats through corporate boxes
so more genuine blue devils can experience the play. What's with the prawn
sandwiches I had to eat when I was there? Well, rest assured, it'll be
super size prawn baguettes when I take charge. I can't wait to come over
to the Manchester isles, as I love the > country, especially the beaches
and the hot chicks. I hope you can all see my vision of this future, with
new shirt sponsors (Dunkin Donuts) and new team name (The Manchester
Gloom) I'm sure things are looking bright.

*Further good news for you guys is that I've just agreed a partnership
deal with McDonalds, who will help in promoting the Manchester brand. This
will involve renaming the stadium to 'McTrafford' as well as an exciting
launch of Manchester Gloom plastic fan toys in every happy meal. Cristiano
Rooney will be the face of this campaign and during this, he will be
marketed globally as Roonald McDonald. TOUCHDOWN! Take care dudes.

To any and all Manchester United fans: your ticket prices will be going up, along with merchandise prices and just about anything else that Glazer controls. I live in Tampa, FL and I know how Glazer does business. He put himself in a lot of debt borrowing enough money to buy the club out, and you're going to feel it while he raises cash to pay it back. He doesn't give a crap about anything but money, and you're all gonna find that out in a hurry. FOr example, the year after Tampa Bay won the Super Bowl, we had price hikes, but the next year, after our team went 7-9, Glazer raised prices again. He also kept prices the same, even though the team went 5-11 last year. This buyout cost Glazer a lot of money, and now the fans of any sports team he owns are going to pay for it.
Bloody Heck

don't feel to bad, when the panthers went 1 - 15, the Richardson's raised the prices for the Panthers.

I don't know if Glazer can do anything with the tv, he can't in the NFL and they haVE a similar colective tv deal.
