If you need help with algebra why are you doing calculus? Differentiation can require some advanced techniques in algebra, particularly the logarithmic and trigonometric functions. Can you give an example of a question that you need help with?

Sory bout the delay, I uploaded the 2 pages im having difficulty with here (http://www.freewebs.com/beaten_souls/police.htm). (dial up warning, contains couple big pictures)

Any help would be good, btw, i know it says it was due last monday, they gave me an extra week to get it done because i broke my leg and missed a bit of school. Only problem is a week wouldve been heaps to catch up if it was only maths, but with 6 other subjects im a little behind where i should be :(

I thank you greatly for any help. For the first question on the first page i get
(2t+3)(t-1)=0 is this correct?

Commie Catholics

For number 3.

I) 3/(j^2) = 3/(-1) = -3

II) 1/(2-j)
complex conjugate of (2-j) is (2 + j)

1/(2 - j) * (2 + j)/(2 + j) = (2 + j)/3
(2 + j)/3 = 2/3 + (2/3)j

III) (1 - J)(3 + 2j)
use FOIL
= 3 + 2j - 3j - 2j^2
= 3 + (-j) + 2
= 5 - j

f'(x) = 3x^2 - 2x - 8

if f'(x) = 0 then
3x^2 - 2x - 8 = 0
(3x - 4)(x + 2) = 0
x = 3/4 or -2

f''(x) = 6x - 2

f''(3/4) > 0

Therefore x = 3/4 is a local minimum

f''(-2) < 0

Therefore x = -2 is a local maximum

remember its cheap here, as a student i live on about $280 (about 108 GBP or 158 EUR) during term and altho its bugger all it pays rent, petrol, food and beer.
So you dont need to save up much to survive here. Also our unemployment (esp. in christchurch) is practically nothing. I had an aussie friend come here (with no qualifications) ans she got 3 job out of the 4 she applied for in the first day. I applied for 2 and got both. So its piss easy to get a job

well i think i got it, but everyone else seems to have gone, would be good for someone to check...

you got y = ln(1-2x) and you cant have a log of a negative number, so:

1-2x > 0
1 > 2x
1/2 > x

so the vertical asymptote is at x = 1/2

as ln(1) = 0, thats the y intercept

so y = 0 when 1-2x = 1

1 - 2x = 1
-2x = 0
x = 0

i can draw a sketch but dont know how to get it to you, can you post attatchements in this forum?
