Russia-Japan
The sovereignty dispute over the islands of Etorofu, Kunashiri, and Shikotan, and the Habomai group, known in Japan as the "Northern Territories" and in Russia as the "Southern Kuril Islands", occupied by the Soviet Union in 1945, now administered by Russia and claimed by Japan, remains the primary sticking point to signing a peace treaty formally ending World War II hostilities.

I would have thought that after the Soviet Union fell the war would have ended as it was they that went to war with Japan and not the new Russian republic.

They've made great strides since the ceasation of active hostilities (1953). Now that they have decided upon the shape of the table for the peace talks (rectangular, decided mid 1980s) all they have to do is settle on the number of negotiators for both sides and the issues to be covered. I'm sure a peace treaty will be concluded before the end of the 24th century.

I don't think the Flordia's indigenous population will be shooting at the US army anytime soon... ;)

If it's a war between just two countries, it's not a world war any more.

Oh, and it's not a war at all, just a border dispute of sorts.

Never was a war, it was a "police action". :DCivil war between two factions in Korea. UN involvement is currently a police action, and was at the time a police action, so it is acceptable to consider the US/Canadian/Norweigen+14 involvement not to have been a war for those nations, but it is a war for the Koreans.
