What screen res is that supposed to be on, anyway? 800x600? I hope not. On 1086x720 or whatever the hell it is, my estimation was exactly right.

You should be familiar with both SI and our Americanisims :P. That shows you've got some worldly knowledge under your belt. I don't know about people elsewhere in the world. But I had to learn SI units. You should have to learn inches and suchlike.

Oh yeah, we learn them, but do we think in them? Do I look at my finger and say, "Hm, I think that's three inches" or do I look and say "Hm, I think that's 7.62 centimeters?" Do I look across the street and estimate the street's length in feet or meters? Can I draw or hold up an approximate foot or meter?

you do realize that only the US is using imperical now, right?

1) It's English Imperial Measurement, not American Measurement

2) For those who need to convert, 1 inch is approx 2.54cm

3) Imperial Measurement still sees quite a lot of usage in the UK, for example, ask someone in the UK how tall they are and they will nearly all answer in feet and inches (and to test this I just stepped out of my office and asked the dozen people currently in the factory area their height and all of them answered using feet, and when I asked if they knew their height in metres, only one of them could give me an answer and that was only because he had to fill it in on a passport renewal form yesterday).

Its the same here in Germany. When I am asked my height I automatically reply 6ft, before remembering they use the 'units system for dummies' ;) :D

Actually thats a bit harsh. I mean I occasionally use metres and cm's but more often than not it's all feet and inches. Explaining why is all the more difficult... :( most just end up confused. :p

hello. We sily englishmen also use imperial (even though officially we're supposed to be metric) - we use mph (not kph), stojes, pounds, pints, and lots of silly things like that. odd, huh??? Wht time is it where you are, just out of interest?

IIRC they don't use stones in the States, they only use lbs.

14lbs = 1 Stone

just divide or times as needed

i mean given i weigh *cough*12 and a half stoneish*cough* thats 175lbs. No idea if thats good or bad but at 6ft tall i think its ok. (as does my gf :D )
