I need to know a good, FREE antivirus.. preferrably no AVG.. but if I can't find anything else I'll have to go with that I guess.

I don't know any free antivirus programs but I got Macafee2005 antivirus software from Amazon.com for $4.50. You could get it from their for a similar price I am sure.

Don't download programs on P2P softwares and don't go to untrustable sites.

Good luck with that. I have Norton myself for free...not that it's supposed to be free really.

Spend the bucks for Norton or McAfee. It will save you a lot of money and grief in the long run.

Get Microsoft Antispyware. Microsoft has a tendancy towards mediocrity, but it works surprisingly well.

I use Avast antivirus. Downloaded it at www.download.com and it works rather nicely.

AntiVir Guard is better than any of those, and it's really effecient. No clutter!

Don't use Norton. We've had it for awhile, and it used to be great, but since the anti-virus/firewall integration it's started to suck majorly. Why don't you want to use AVG, anyhoo? I hear good things....

I use Computer Associates (CA) EZ-Antivirus. Cheap with low system overhead. Used with Safe Computing practices, no one in my office has had a bug since I installed it.

It has a 30day free download IIRC.

Look Here. (http://store.ca.com/dr/sat1/ec_main.entry25?page=TrialwareCenter&client=ComputerAssociates&sid=35715)

I've used AVG Free for a couple years and it's never failed to protect my system. I've never gotten a virus. Why are you biased against it?

I use AntiVir, but on one machine we have AVG. No problems with either.

When I was getting my new comp at best buy, one of the salespeople asked if I had an antivirus program..I told them I had Avast. They'd not only never heard of it, but kept insisting I use Norton, to my dismay. I've had a lot of problems with Norton, and have used Avast for quite some time now, with no real problems.
