This is Finnish army today. And no, I'm not in those pictures either.

Edit: They are still trying to figure out in what unit those pictures were taken (yeah, trying too hard, i bet).

Yeah-if its a gas mask, he's wearing it on the wrong side-shouldnt it be in the back?

Hehe. True dat.

Edit: On a more or less serious note, i have studied that picture more closely for the first time now (when it was news here, i just thought "meh, boys are boys"). It seems it's from a MP unit. the guy in the back has a 'sword' symbol in his jacket. So at least Finnish military police is keeping up with the latest trends...

off topic- i missed by a very small margin your carbondale thread. and considering i'm half of these boards saluki representation, this is unfortunate. i will, however, be calling that woman, if for no other reason than to inform her of V.O.'s presence in her shrubbery.

Heh. Well, I don't know about other armed forces, but PC-ness wasn't the first thing on our mind when i served. It's more about killing the time doing your mandatory 11 month service. If that meant sticking your bollocks to your gas mask and going on all fours, guess what we did... :D

I remember various initiation stunts. Some don't bear repeating.

The most fun stunt was being lifted by STABO rig by a helicopter, and then being dragged through a lake at high speed - no one told us that the "training" would include the water.

They weren't even Americans. Who would have guessed?

Oh bugger! Unfortunately we don't have such resources. Helicopters are just out of the question in hazing ceremonies. Makes me wanna cry really... Oh! I just had several good ideas... oh well. :(

Not me-I'm only 38. 60 would be about right-my god father. They decomissioned the Midway in 1991 I think. The Independence replaced it.

you're probably right.. In any case, it was strictly in jest and not meant as derogatory.

Yeah. I only knew Midway cos I have visited San Diego. Never went to Embarcadero, but still. I have zero knowledge of ships, being an artillery guy myself (directing artillery fire whilst running with the grunts, don't know what that is in english).

By the way, those were MP's. Perhaps they were training for wartime duty at military prisons, inspired by their US collegues.

Ummm. I was trained/selected to use the central artillery computer. That's a brigade level knot in artillery information. But when in regular service, I ran with a radio on my back and an artillery message machine on my front typing like a son-of-a-bitch.

Siis, keskussanomalaitteen hoitaja, mutta tulenjohtotehtävissä jalkaväen tukena harjoituksissa. Sano nyt tämä sitten enklanniks.
