iPods

I just got off the phone with tech support. I was calling about my busted iPod. Busted may not be the best word for what happened. My iPod had some kind of nervous breakdown and went schizophrenic. It does a lot of things now, but none of them are play music. This isn't the first time this has happened. HP is sending me my third replacement iPod in 6 months. This has happened before. Unfortunately, whatever was wrong with the previous two iPods was also beyond the help of Rajiv the tech support guy in India. The point: anybody else have horror stories about dealing with iPods? When I bought one, I was under the impression they were pretty reliable devices.

Anyway, I have an ipod and the only trouble I ever had was difficulty getting he songs on iTunes importing onto the iPod. It only happened once though.

It's gotten to the point where if I walk too fast mine will start skipping through every song without playing. However, I've found a good cure for this: a nice, firm, smack jolts it back to life. Thus the old dogma that computers respond well to violence holds true.

I've had some problems with iTunes before, and have found that the best way to avoid problems with the iPod when connecting to computers in general is to set it so that it doesn't auto-update, which can cause a lot of slow-down problems while it tries desperately to interrupt every process on the computer in order to start iTunes, which is by far the most memory consumptive music player I've ever used. This problem alone had me reformatting my iPod twice before I used stated solution.

Mine's only been reliable as far as the case not cracking open whenever I drop it. Amazingly enough, the same didn't apply for the headphones, which finally went in the trash today. Go figure.

I'm still using my 1st gen Ipod (circa 2001). I was the first person in my school to own one, you know, when they were a nerd accersory rather than a hipster one.

my only problem ever has been the gradual death of the battery that all rechargables face. But I cracker her open, replaced the battery and snapper her back together and she's good as new.

heh, I myself have both a mp3discman and a 'regular' 1GB mp3player, but most of what's on it is ripped from my CDs (for now, until I get my MP3-collection back on my pc :D )

just get a regular apple ipod...hp ipod took the orginal blueprints fucked with it and basicall made a peice a peice of crap resembling the ipods former self. THATS why its fucked. ipods from apple are reliable and free tech support...not only that but THEY are the experts on such things...plus they are pc compatable (aww how nice of them)

heh, my run-of-the-mill USB-stick MP3player can play music video's, even though it only has a small monochrome screen

I've had my iPod for 20 months now, and no problems. What makes that notable is that I have been in Iraq for the last 6 of 'em, and still no problems. Man, what would I do without the Flight of the Valkyries?

What ever you do, don't get a Philips Go Gear 2GB. I've had it since november and had nothing but problems with it. Its been in repair the last 3 weeks, I got it back and now it has other problems. For 200€ i expect better TBH.

lmao

fucking ipods.
get a creative player - they're cheaper, look less like plastic children's toys in a shitty jelly mould shape, and work just as well. and have better sound quality (which company has been making high-end consumer audio devices for a decade huh?)

My 1 gig iPod shuffle is spectacular. It does exactly what I wanted it for.

I've never had a single problem with iTunes either. Of course, I did things right from the start and bought a Mac...

iPods can also play AAC files, which many mp3 players can't. As a bit of an audiophile, I LOATH mp3s. They sound HORRRRRIBLE. But my "highly tuned" ears can bairly pick up a hint of compression or degradation with AAC, or from my iPod itself. I never thought an "mp3" player would replace my discman for my day-to-day use. But here we are.

I'd like a proper iPod as well, A 30 gig would do me fine. I don't download music anyway; I only rip my own CDs, so it'd take me forever to fill up 30 gigs. Someday, maybe.

I've listened to a lot of players. Everything from full on iPods to iRivers to little junker Kazoos. Nothing has touched the iPod.

However, I did replace the headphones with some nice Sony street-styles immediately. My buds are still in the box.

Good man. *shakes hand*

Well, our iPods are fine. The older one (3G I think) goes nuts every now and then, but we just updated the software on it and its fine again. I blame my brother for mucking around with it...

It plays music, and its easy to use, so I like it.

Yeah, my 30GB Nomad Zen is the greatest. And it cost $100 less then a 20GB iPod.

I think it's sad that so many people are going iPod bashing... it's the best... and all the other players are just cheap knock-offs...

Mine occasionally flips out and runs through all my songs without playing them, but after charging back up again, it's fine. But not as cute as those mini ones - those are brilliant!!!!

Sony has a great 20 g mp3 player, quite small too.
iRiver h320 has a better color screen then the iPod photo edition.
The iAudi x5 has many more codec support and color screen.
Archos gmini 400 has 2.2 inch cool color screen and plays video.

All of those player beat the iPod in every aspect, prehaps not design.

For some strange reason, I really really hate Ipods. I have no idea why, but there's something about seeing those bloody white boxes on the train that brings out my inner homicidal manic.... I mean, who needs to carry 1000 songs with them?

No idea, I have no problems with my 256Mb Creative MuVoTX MP3 player so far. This is an iPod 20Gb or 4Gb?

You've got to love anti-capitalist hypocrisy. You guys rage against corporations, all the while buying their stuff.

I completely agree

I bought my Creative Zen Touch 20GB for the same price as a mini Ipod, and it is so much better. Better looking, controls, and pretty much everything...

My friend has an Ipod, and he has had to get it fixed several times since he got it at christmas
