Is it just me, or is Jolt buggier than usual?

Seriously, Ive gotten two Error 500 (Internal Server) a bunch of 404's, Sites not Found, and about a billion Invalid Links, all on legitimate pages, all fixed by hitting 'refresh' a lot.
Normally Jolt works fairly well for me, I get a few invalid link errors and it still persists in signing me out after long posts, but its usualy fairly good.
But if this keeps up, Im gonna have to make my own blood NS forum :P

Seems much better now, but it was horrible just an hour ago.

Yeah, I agree. I also get invalid link, no page found, 404, everything. When I click Forum, it sometimes goes slow, and then it takes a long time, etc. I'm trying to remember if this has happened before the big server crash or whatever it was. Maybe we could split the forum. Everything game-related in one forum, and General Discussion and NS 2 on another.

How ironic is this: I press reply, and I get an invalid link message.

Im getting an Error 500 almost every time I hit 'reply' now.
This is getting annoying >_<

Yes, it was really bad just a little bit earlier. I think Jolt is collapsing under the weight of NS, what with the NS massive glitch, the Database Errors fiasco, and the Invalid Thread Catastrophe. The world is coming to an end.

What forum will be next to hold us???

I was locked out of the forums for about six hours today - I started wondering if I'd been thrown out again, this time for good.

I know everybody says, 'well if you think Jolt sucks, count yourself lucky you weren't around pre-Jolt, 'cause that reeeally sucked', but - honestly - I think Jolt bites. No matter what the the pre-Jolt days were like.

I was around every now and then in the Pre-Jolt era...it was bad, but not this bad.
The worst I had was having to wait five minutes for pages to load sometimes, and one or two hour long lock-outs if it was REALLY bad.
I wonder if we can crash the Jolt server if we all jump up and down really quickly...

I was worried if I'd accidentally flamed, spammed, or posted something I shouldn't have.

When 2 people post at the same time, it takes 22 seconds longer to load the page. When 200,000 post, it would take 2,200,000 seconds = 45,000 minutes = almost a year. Fortunately that doesn't happen very often. But if it did the servers would really crash.

Unofficial opinion:

There aren't enough NS users to cause this much of a problem, and it most likely wouldn't manifest in the same way for most of the day. This is a server load issue, and I doubt seriously that NSers are the principla culprits. Jolt admins have mentioned web-crawler bots before, and I'm betting it's them or some other loading factor.

If it were NS, this problem would have manifested itself much earlier, I would suspect. We've been here for close to a year now. It has to be a relatively recent development.

It's a database thing. Kinda looks to me like when it's not crashing, the problem is a null error, or possible not finding the database instance. But then again they use mySql, so instance isn't important, so the problem has to lie with vBulletin.
Frisbeeteria

Given all the 404 and Not Found errors, I think something external is either overloading the site or the local DNS servers that point to the site. It might even be a DDoS (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ddos) attack, and it doesn't even have to be focused on Jolt forums to be disruptive.

Everybody whines "FIX THE SERVER", but in all probablility it is generated from outside rather than inside. Give it a rest, ok?

I only ever get the dreaded "database" error, (which I have a translation (http://thecomputerman.dyndns.biz/tekania/jolt.html) of).

Never have gotten a 50x or 40x error from jolt, but then again, I'm on a 10Mb SDSL connection.

It's still terrible for me. It's really annoying, because when I get into discussions in threads people are going to think I've run away because I can't answer their superior logic power, when in fact the reason I haven't replied is because I can't get on the board.

Hmm... I second Club House's idea. If I was an admin, I would delete everything in General at least.

General makes up what? 43% of the posts in NS?

Yeah, that would take off some of the load at least. I think.

But then again, I'm nobody. So pay no heed to this message.

Move on... o.O

It has kind of sucked this morning. I think it must be all the new H1-B visa software guys they get from India. If they'd just hire a couple Georgia Tech grads, it would all work as smoothly as Earthlink/Mindspring does.

Forgetful in our old age, are we? That period in April where even old timers beyond my age (originally August 2003) questioned Jolt.

Quit your whining guys! I've gotten exactly 3 errors in the last 48 hours. That ain't nothing compared to what it was a month ago. That was at least comperable to the bad old days.
