Its wrong for the Americans to try and control the situation around the world with WMD so that only they and the countries they like have them.

They are bad.

It's my universe, after all. I don't want it destroyed.

And all those people who play with bombs, beware. The Callistan Law Enforcement Squad will soon come and destroy your planet. KYAHAHAHA!

I think WMDs are fantastic, and anyone who says I can't have them is assaulting my human rights. Everyone should have the right to bear WMD in case of assault, burglary, or invasion of their nation, or planet. Whoever says that isn't going to happen soon isn't paranoid enough. WMD are an integral part of our worlds culture, and I do no harm by possessing WMD. Besides, they're cool! They make big bangs and make me feel tough! WMD actually make the world a safer place, since people will think twice about nuking you if they know they might get nuked back. In fact, it should be made compulsory for everyone to carry WMD for self defence purposes, and in case of invasion. If someone attacked you, and you were unable to defend yourself, it would be your fault for not carrying WMD.

Yes, that was highly sarcastic. :p And no, I am not one of the three people who has so far voted in favour of WMD. I didn't vote at all.

I can't vote on the poll because I'm ambivalent about WMD. I don't mind if trustworthy governments have them, but I don't think nations like N. Korea, Iran, or even Pakistan should have them. N. Korea might sell the technology to non state actors (terrorists), Pakistan has already sold the technology, Iran might use their WMD threat to negate Israel's WMD and precipitate another regional war against Israel which is likely to go nuclear. All three of those nations aren't exactly stable, and if they collapse some nuclear weapons might be "lost" or whoever takes power might be crazy enough to use WMD.

Is any nation trustworthy enough to hold weapons which could easily and indisciminantly destroy thousands, if not millions, of lives? It's how to get rid of the darn things that's the problem. Noone wants to disarm first.

I'd say many nations are. USA, UK, France, China, Russia, Ukrain, and many others are quite trustworthy. Some are just too unstable or too crooked.

I dont think the Japanese would agree with that but what do they know?

Also, hasn't the US already sold its nuclear technology to other countries?

1 Yeah, I know about the Japanese. It's brought up every time we discuss nuclear weapons on this forum. Aside from the justifications for using nukes in WWII (you may agree with them, you may not) we've shown restraint since then. Even when our civilian population was attacked on 9/11 and many people were calling on our government to "nuke the towelhead bastards" we didn't.

2 Yes, but not to non-state actors or to unstable nations. Like I said, I have no problem with trustworthy nations owning WMD.

if we were so responsible about who we sold nuclear technology too, then how has it fallen into the wrong hands?

I don't recall us selling nuclear technology to Pakistan. I may be wrong, but I don't remember hearing anything about us transfering nuclear technology to them.

I may also be wrong but didn't the US first develop nuclear weapons? I believe that Russia was next with a little help from the US, right? I'm pretty ignorant of this subject really. What I think is that it was irresponsible to sell the nucelar technology to anyone at all, and having done so makes the US responsible for it being in the wrong hands today.

Russia was next with a little help from Soviet spies. The US didn't intentionally pass on nuclear technology to the soviets.

WMDs are a bad idea. I dont have enough faith in human nature to feel confident about ANY government posessing weapons that could conceivably end our existance. We should bring back conventional warfare: swords and bows :D. That way, governments can send as many of their citizens to thier deaths as they want, without making me worry for the safety of my family and country half a globe away.

Where's the profit in that? Let's just destroy N. Korea's military, change the regime, and export all of our high paying jobs there to be done for pennies per hour.
