In our moment of triumph came a life time of pain
May 11th 1985, Bradford City had been crowned kings of the 3rd Division before kick off in their match against Lincoln. The game was a timid affair by all accounts, with not much happening as it approached half time. The old main stand was still made of wood and bolted together, and rubbish had collected underneath the stand. As the fans watched smoke drifted up from the stand which was suddenly engulfed in flame. It burned down in less than 5 minutes, with the wind driving the flames along the stand.
56 died 250 were injured.
Mothers, fathers, grand parents, sons and daughters were lost.
One family lost the Grand dad, father and two grandsons in the tragedy.
Today the City of Bradford remembered those who died, as did I far away from my second home city.
In memory of those 56 I wanted to write this post so that they will not be forgotten.
Bradford City will not forget.
