Vegas Video can do all that:

And the last time I tried this program, it was fully usable for 30 days. :)

Adobe Premier Pro 1.5 can be downloaded as trial (30 days)
http://www.adobe.com/products/tryadobe/main.jsp#product=98
It's about 170MB! (Windows only)

You could also try Windows media toolkit, it is free, version 7 was cool if you can still get it, not exactly the most userfriendly as was a collection of programming tools,
video capturix was fun and simple and roxio video impressions (bth not free but you might have got video impressions if the roxio (adaptec) suite came with your CDRW

I'm no longer a student so I'm now paying full pricing for my software.
Always wondered what the hell the difference between the retail and academic version is.

License … that’s it (well in premiers case)
Basically it says that I can not “profit” off of the product (though it does allow me to be paid for my “time” :D)
So I make a video I cant get thinks like royalties off of it or anything
I presume you aren't using a Mac; if you were, iMovie would do it for ya.
Meh.
I'll go now…

Lol first you have to get rid of OS10.X (xbeing anything) and install freebsd from www.freebsd.org
:p
Though to be fair OS 10 is bassed off of bsd already :) I just dont like the gui (they should go more to an xfce gui)

Don't trust him! He's trying to make you use software which is covered by a license even more evil than proprietary ones! xD http://www.gentoo.org/

I wouldn't reccomend download.com, they have been known to carry spyware.
But as a few others have said, Sony Vegas is an excellent program for movies, but for images, movie clips, and music I would reccomend Sony ACID, another excellent program.

Bah. Just got OS 10.4. Me likes. And I'm not such a hardcore computer user that I'd want to change it. It works.
