Amid the Ashes: Remembering Dante

May eleventh……six months later……
For me the time has seemed to have taken longer then it actually did. It seems that these six months have been more like years to me. Each long day that has passed was pain; a reminder that I lost the one person in my life who could make me the happiest.
But now, six months later, I look back on the happy times we had. I remember his “HOSTILE TAKEOVERS,” his amazing laugh and grin, his silliness and nudity…..I do not think anyone who knew him could forget that, the cuteness of his inability to find the right words to say when he really loved someone, the mutual showers, and his mischievous childlike personality. I remember the look in his eyes….it was like he was planning something, like throwing you in a pool. Despite the hell in his life, which many in NS have come to learn about, he was a great man. He had a true heart and once you got past his depression, he was a kind and loving man with a childlike personality. He could find beauty in the darkest of times and places if he was given the chance to.
This thread is in honor of him. Today we remember his passing six months ago; it came suddenly in the midst of night (what I consider night)/early morning on the road to recovery after a long three month struggle between life and death. This thread is to commemorate Dante and his loss. Poems, stories, even prayers are acceptable forms to remember him through. I ask that any skepticism, rude comments, and apathy be refrained from in this thread. If you have nothing nice to say, move along, do not post here. Many still hurt from his death; we cannot heal when the wounds are constantly torn open again and again, time after time.
Furthermore, please no condolences in this thread. I ask they be posted here: http://forums.jolt.co.uk/showthread.php?t=375846 instead. I thank and appreciate your concerns and sympathy, but the purpose of this thread is to remember him to help us move on.
:)
Side note: You can also visit my "subtle" tribute to him at http://www.tabulas.com/~DerFuhrer_Dyszel/ . The collage is pictures I have that have some connection to him, obviously.

I guess I should have stated this earlier, but your posts do not have to about Dante specifically. You can post something death related like a poem, etc.... This is to help us move on, anything that is inspiration in the time of death will help.

Dante had his problems, we all do; but i know for a fact that the happiest he was in life was when he was near this 'little lady' here.
I can remember when he woke up from the coma, all he ever talked about was DFD (and the Diablo SV, its a work of art as well). Even when she wasnt around, he relied so much on the fact that she would be soon. It was this that kept him going day in and day out.. this that helped him last as long as he did to make as many memories as possible, nothing could be better than that.
Anyone who knows DFD, or knew Dante knows that the two of them were much stronger together than apart (and they actually seemed to be glued together sometimes). I can remember laughing at various foolish things those two would do together, despite circumstance; and laughing at life is the only way to truly live.. we could only be so lucky to find love like that love they had. He might not have been himself for those last weeks; but he was who he was.. and every rendition loved DFD.
When he wasnt admiring DFD, or a Lamborghini; he would speak to me about his various plots to overthrow the Dictatorship. Never too much, they were his plots; but I know he had something huge planned to take DFD down.. I guess she could say she was lucky in that aspect. I know losing to him AGAIN wasnt something she was looking forward to. :-P
In the end, Dante enjoyed few things; but those things that he enjoyed most, he was very talented at (good and bad things).. and many people found his witty character nice to be around; as I did. Maybe he regrets what occured, but I dont believe so. Tis better to have love and lost? If I asked him this question in person somehow, ive no doubt of his answer.

Per DFD's request:
Staind, "Zoe Jane"
Well I want you to notice
To notice when I'm not around
And I know that your eyes see straight through me
And speak to me without a sound
I want to hold you
Protect you from all of the things I've already endured
I want to show you
Show you all the things that this life has in store for you
I'll always love you
The way that a father should love his daughter
When I walked out this morning
I cried as I walked to the door
I cried about how long I'd be away for
I cried about leaving you all alone
I want to hold you
Protect you from all of the things I've already endured
I want to show you
Show you all the things that this life has in store for you
I'll always love you
The way that a father should love his daughter
Sweet Zoe Jane
Sweet Zoe Jane
So I wanted to say this
Cuz I wouldn't know where to begin
To explain to you what I have been through
To explain where your daddy has been
I want to hold you
Protect you from all of the things I've already endured
I want to show you
Show you all the things that this life has in store for you
I'll always love you
The way that a father should love his daughter
Sweet Zoe Jane

I think one of my fondest memories of Dante is when he was playing with children and he wrapped their blankets around them like they were capes. The children all played as superheroes and he was the evil villian.
It was so adorable, seeing someone of his stature playing with children, and rolling on the ground begging for mercy from a bunch of children who were no taller then his knees.

I can remember one specific story.
I got online earlier one day, and immediately had an inquiry from Dante about how someone could escape from a straitjacket. So, we're talking a bit about it; I cant tell anything is wrong.. but he starts making typing errors, so I ask him what's up. Well, it turns out he's in one; after a pause, while I wonder how the hell he is still typing without arms to use, I mention Lethal Weapon, where Mel Gibson pops his shoulder out of its socket to escape... something he turned out to be frantically interested in.
I related to him how its possible to just throw one's arm right out of its socket. He was rather quiet for a bit, trying the technique I recommended, then said that DFD was finally home to rescue him.
I still laugh when I imagine the whole event.. film footage would be a gift from god.

she could probably tell it better, she was actually there, although she was giving me the details through aim, and i was almost rolling over the floor...
dante was wearing a suit (think they came home from dinner with dfd's parents) and when they came home, he was trying to do handstands still wearing his suit :D
i also remember him complaining about his tie, he definatly didn't like wearing it..
and how we were plotting on how he would propose to DFD...and it ended up a lot different...think he even took something i said a bit too literally...lets just say it must have been the most original proposal ever.

Wow, great stories CG. :D

oh boy, do i.... rofl!
and how we joked around when he'd help your little cousin with his punctuation....
Remember his sex talk to Mandee after she walked in on us? *stifles giggle* Oh, or do you remember how he taught her to put those little smiley faces on AIM into the messages?
Remember when I cried when he came back and how he thought I was sad and angry because he did not understand that women cry when they are happy too?
Or teasing him about the whip?
Oh my! Remember when Mandee would tell him to stop drinking "silly soda"? Or how he would play with her for hours? And how he played with all the kids?
Remember when we bet the shit out of Nate for being an idiot? Or when Dante decked his doctor? Now.....that was priceless! Or when my kitty cat would fall asleep on him or near him?
Oh the memories with him!
Dear DFD, I came to late to know Dante, my loss, but oh far smaller than yours.
As long as you remember, he is never truly gone
and might I offer this, author uncertain...
Do not stand at my grave and weep,
I am not there, I do not sleep.
I am a thousand winds that blow.
I am the diamond glint on snow.
I am the sunlight on ripened grain.
I am the gentle autumn rain.
When you wake in the morning hush,
I am the swift, uplifting rush
Of quiet birds in circling flight.
I am the soft starlight at night.
Do not stand at my grave and weep.
I am not there, I do not sleep.
Do not stand at my grave and cry.
I am not there, I did not die!

oh, do i remember!
he was afraid you'd be so angry with him after he decked his doc, he didn't want to go home, so had to tell him you'd be very happy to see him and i warned him you might cry and scream, but that just meant you cared..
so as i heard, he got back to you, and you cried and yelled a bit from being worried...and he hugged.
also...
remember when he got home from the hospital, and he wanted to surprise you, and you hit him...somewhere? :D
and then you went and kissed it all better :p

Lessons Learned in Life... Take it from me...
Dante "In my day n age...ppl didn't have these here newfangled titles..."
Posted: Oct 25 2004, 07:49 PM
"Alright...take these lessons learned in life from me...I learned them the hard way so you don't all have to...
* Don't take an over abundance of alcohol with anti-depressents...
* Don't take your pills with alcohol...
* Don't drink alcohol after you've taken too many pills in the first place...
* Don't drink and go out to parties and drink...
* Don't drink and let someone you no longer trust into the house...
* Don't drink if you've got a deadly weapon on hand...
* You know what...avoid drinking period...
* Don't hesitate to do the things that mean the most to you...
* Don't bottle up your emotions just because you were taught not to show them...
* Don't be afraid to lean one someone once in awhile...
* Don't be afraid to turn to people...sometimes you help them too...
* Don't be ashamed of who you are...make the best of it...
* Don't be so damn concerned what others think of you...
* Don't waste your life on trying to be someone you're not...
* Don't give up...even when life seems hopeless...
Remember...I'm still here...I learned these things..."
Note: The first set of Don'ts is supposed to be taken humerously. The second set is serious. Dante would laugh about his own situation; he was very witty at times......it kept him sane. ;)

Conversation that followed afterward:
MechaNation: "No drinking? DFD's sent you through AA, hasn't she?"
Dante: "Yea...in real life its called a coma..."
MechaNation: "Well a lesson learned..."
Dante: "Lesson learned: * The cure for alcoholism is a coma..."
MechaNation: "Or, in conciousness DFD!"
Dante: "I'm lucky...you all had to suffer from her...ha...now you feel what I feel all the time...oh shit...she's going to read this isn't she..."
MechaNation: "Well, at least it was all virtual...I can't say this about the beating you'll get in a bit!"
Dante: "Oh...you mean that smash in the balls she called an accident before wasn't the end of it... ///covers self and cowers in corner/// I think I should've stayed asleep longer..."
MechaNation: "No, this time it will last longer...and be more precise. So much for kids Dante!"
Stu: "Maybe you should wear a cup 24/7"
MechaNation: "Excellent idea. Good advice Dante, you have to admit, that's good advice!"
Dante: "I dont know if a cup is going to cut it...she hits hard...I might need my own suit of armor just to protect myself..."

The mere words I know can not even begin to sum up who Dante was, and what he meant to me and everyone else he came into contact with. Needless to say, he changed the lives of everyone he contacted. Though I did not know him personally, I always considered him one of my closer friends.
He’s the man, always will be…that’s all I got…the phrase “>hey hey hey” will always be synonymies with “Dante”
