To the liberals of the board, I ask:

Have you ever been in real life called a Communist, Socialist-Dog, Pinko, Commie, Russkie or Red because of your views?

I was participating in a debate some time ago in my Latin class, and after my statements one of the audience-members called me a Commie.

And I bet the punk fathead didn't even know what a Communist was...

So post your experiences.

I blame the cold war.

It's hard to be a leftists/socialists these days without attracting comments like that.

Just to get where you are coming from, what is your definition of a communist?

I was called a communist in high school for suggesting that because we live in such a well off nation we should provide free emergency dental care for people who need it.

It's not MY definition, but theirs. I'm burned up for two reasons.

-They are mislabeling me.
-Half the time the smucks don't even know what a Communist is. They just think "Oh, Communist=bad, so I'll call him that!".

Never been called a communist, but I've been called a liberal, and around here it means the same thing. :D

Well, I'm liberal, but here in Sweden we actually *have* a communist party or two, so I can't say I've been called one.

All the time. But mostly as a joke.

We also have a communist party in Finland. They are a joke too.

Yup-In a debate. After the debate I broke the bastards nose.* I'm not a communist - I'm a future Imperialist Evil Dictator!

*There was also a few other reasons why-for example, he hit my sister the previous day. The 'commie' remark was just the last straw.

Never been called a commie, mainly because I have friends who follow that certain economic/political theory so they get all the abuse! :p

i've been called a "damn commie" and "fucking hippie" by a number of my friends for years :D

edit: never in serious debate (except on here), but thats largely cos i never let my true political colours show through unless i'm talking to people i know ;)

I think I might have, on some occasions. Or at least "bloody socialist". Does that count?

All the time. But mostly as a joke.

We also have a communist party in Finland. They are a joke too.
Don't we have two? "Suomen Kommunistinen Puolue" and "Rauhan ja Sosialismin puolesta - Kommunistinen Työväenpuolue r.p."

The definition of communism seems to be different in different parts of the world. :p

Yeah. But I always call them fascists or skins or Hitler or brownie or dictator or nazi. All in good fun though
