So my government wants to make a law that says that people can not buy a pre-paid phone card with out giving the seller your personal information, like for i.e. your pin personal id number.
This is to prevent those who steel gsm phones from using them.

What do you think?....The hell im giving up personal info just to buy a damn card.

It does no use if it is optional and the gsm companies are going to see a new low in their business if it is manditory, also people dont want to give up personal info just because the police cant do their jobs right.

Wait, is this ALL new cards or just cards that come with new numbers?

Hmmm.. is preventing the use of stolen phones worth the possibility of big brother government?

I would think it's would make more sense to have the owners report the theft and have the phones turned off. Unless I don't understand the workings of "gsm" phones (which is entirely possible)

I think GSm ones are the ones that don't have SIM cars, so can't be as easily shut down.

No.

It does and that is what is done today. The police dont seem to do a damn thing about it.

All pre-paid phone cards.

That is a bit excessive. I can understand personal details being required for all new numbers but for just credit top-ups it's a bit much.

Though what have you got to hide anyway? Are you feeding you SMS habit with stolen credit?

Hehehe :), No. I just dont like the idea of giving my personal info to non-government people. The police and government branches are more then welcome to take a look but the rest are not.
