I picked heavy metal. While I prefer rock as a whole to metal as a whole, if I were to pick one genre of either it would be heavy metal, as exemplified in the poll.

Just a little confused by the examples given.

Billy Joel is rock?
Blink 182 are punk?

Perhaps I just have different concepts attached to these labels.

Anyway, my favourite is strongly Blues based rock, which, given the options translates as Classic (Led Zep).

Grunge, Alternative, Stoner, Blues or Punk rock. Depends on the mood, though overall I like them equally. Okay, maybe grunge is a *little* in front. :)

And who told you Blink 182 was punk? Do yourself a favour and go listen to the Dead Kennedys, Refused, The Partisans, etc..

I voted "classic rock", but I like "heavy metal" too, as broad a range as they both encompass...

well, Blink 182 a) Sucks Balls, and b) Is kind of modern punk.

I was trying to prove that modern sh** like Blink 182 is way overruled by good music.

Since they've existed....Metallica was a thrash band reacting against the hair meral scene in LA...which is bands like Motley crue....they then became a main stream metal band with blues rock and even country influences on the new stuff..they were never a hair metal band..

First, Bob Dylan did Folk music, he is NOT a hippy and Blink 182 is NOT punk rock.

My taste runs from Classic rock, to 80s Metal, to 90s Grunge, to modern Metal and Gothic rock. I never could get into Death Metal and the like so I tend to draw the line just short of the REALLY heavy stuff.

I refuse to vote on the poll because of some inherent errors:

1. Metallica is/was heavy/thrash metal.

2. AC/DC is considered classic rock.

3. Blink 182 is NOT PUNK ROCK. *smack* (see: Misfits, Sex Pistols, et al.)

4. You forgot blues rock. (ZZ Top, et al.)

5. You forgot numetal (KoRn, et al.)

6. You forgot alt.metal (Tool, et al.)

7. You forgot doom/death metal. (Death, et al.)

8. You forgot industrial rock/metal (NIN, Rammstein, Ministry, et al.)

With that said, I listen to almost all forms of rock -- some of my favorites being David Bowie, The Doors, ZZ Top, Static-X, KoRn (old stuff), NIN, Rammstein, AC/DC and a whole buttload of other bands.

Didn't vote either as how can Blink 182 be classed as PUNK, plus you had no INDIE section.

But my favourite rock music types are classic (e.g Led Zep), punk (e.g The Clash), mod (The Jam, The Who) and indie (e.g Bloc Party, The Libertines)

I'd say Punk rock for me, but not Blink 182, just the good stuff like Sex Pistols, Distillers, Rancid, the Buzzcocks etc. But if rock's good then it's good, theres no specific genre of it that better, I don't think. As long as it's rock, it's cool :) (exceptions: Green day, Good Charlotte etc)

Ugh. Indie means the band is on an independent label. It isn't a fricking genre!

I voted punk but it made me queasy that you provided blink 182 as the example of punk music. That is bubblegum pop music for tweens, not punk. More specifically I like Psychobilly, which is really its own form of music, but probably falls under the umbrella of punk music.

Well here in Britain it is classed as a genre by some. Most of the modern Indie takes its influences from Britpop of the 90s and bands like the Smiths in the 80s. Examples of "Indie" bands are Bloc Party :) , The Coral, The Futureheads.

Punk rock: BLINK 182!?!?!?
GOI#O@!#)%

If that is what you think punk is, I pity you, sir. I like many kinds of rock, punk being one of them. Listen to the Clash. Listen to the Buzzcocks. Listen to Stiff Little Fingers. Listen to Against Me!. Do not ever, ever listen to Blink 182. If you think that is representative of punk music and you think punk sucks, give it another chance. I missed out on punk for years by judging it by modern, mainstream "punk" bands. That's like judging metal by the Darkness or classic rock by Boston or rap by Lil' Bow Wow.

I'm also a fan of psychedelic rock, classic rock and very, very small amount of New Wave (you can't deny Talking Heads.)

"Punk Rock (i.e. Blink 182)"
I will kick your teeth in and make you gum on them then I will rip out your eyes and skull fuck you and then stab you and rape the wounds. jk, but seriously blink 182 is not the leat bit representative of punk music in general. Additionaly the chick from the distillers could kill them all with her bare hands all at once and still have the energy to rock all the blink fans into tinitic oblivion.

I also think it's amusing how lots of people chastise you for not creating a diverse selection, then list loads of slightly different genres which all follow similar 'loud and noisy' trends and completely ignore the fact there are otehr forms of rock such as folk-rock, alternative, etc :P
Anyway, my vote's for whatever you want to call Pink Floyd, with modern British indie in second place.

I definitely don't know which to vote. I love punk (a genre of which I do NOT consider Blink 182 to belong), but I'm also hugely into the underground scene and local music in my area. THERE'S NO SELECTION FOR THIS!

So I just didn't vote, haha haha.....take that!
