What's Going On In Sweden?

Hey, I thought everyone in Europe was blissfully happy, and everyone got along with Muslims with no problems whatsoever on either side.

Then I read this, at The Fjordman:

Rock throwing and attacks against buses and trains are increasing problems in some suburbs. In Malmö the bus lines in the area of Rosengård have been cancelled. In Stockholm, the authorities went even further and stopped both the bus traffic in the Tensta suburb and the train to Nynäshamn. Head of the bus company in the city of Uppsala, Claes-Göran Alm, is considering doing the same, as the harassment is costing too much money and is putting their employees at risk. Benny Persson is selling window glass in the areas south of Stockholm. According to him, they sometimes have to jump into the car and leave the spot, as they are met with the harassment that some of the bus companies in the suburbs are experiencing: Stone throwing and threats. The same thing is reported from Gothenburg, Sweden’s second largest city. The company Hemglass are now attempting to run double crews in their cars to face the problems, but they still have had to completely abandon an area outside Södertälje. If you get stuck in an elevator outside Stockholm, you risk staying there for a long time. The repair personnel now demand security guards present when they arrive, since several of their employees have been physically attacked. The most serious problem, however, is the delay of ambulances and the fire department. According to the Emergency Central, attacks against them have become commonplace in the cities. Every Saturday, at least five to ten times emergency personnel are asking for police escort to be able to do their job.

Yes, I don't see how the thread title relates to the article. What exactly is it that the article says about Muslims?

This is all news to me. As such, I rather doubt the credibility of the site, considering the owner's own description is "A blog about Islam in Scandinavia, Eurabia, Norwegian affairs, leftist stupidity, global politics and whatever else interests me." I strongly believe that the majority of this text, if not all of it, is complete BS.

Seconded. Touting something that includes the words "[insert political side] stupidity" in the titly as a serious news source seems wildly out of place, the "whatever else interests me" bit aside.

Strawman!

Cromotar was talking about the political blog that claimed to be about "leftist stupidity", not about a news site named Aftenposten.

That said, news sources are manifold. Merely by quoting certain selected articles, it is possible to be more biased than any serious news site.

No, just overblown. Runar Søgaard is widely known in Sweden as our own Christian fundamentalist loon. The remarks he made about Mohammed were made on a whim in a sermon that he didn't realize was being recorded. He later apologized for the remark on several occasions. The death threats he received were from equally fundamentalist Muslim loons; representatives for the Swedish Muslim church have accepted his apology.

So where do the other people on this forum get off saying that fundamentalist loons are an exclusively American phenomenon?

Are there others like Runar in other European countries?

I, for one, see Whispering Legs' point. And as liberal tenets have proven unable to 100% wipe out religious tension/violence, I hereby abandon my liberalism and baptize myself in the rightist doctrine of neverending holy war and the advancement of the obvious point that Islam is evil.

No, my point is this:

Too many people on this forum post the idea that religious extremism is a solely American problem, and never occurs in enlightened and intelligent Europe.

I see it's still occurring - and it's not a solely American problem.

Then you should have no problem providing multiple examples in the forum wear people have made this claim, using words like "solely" or "exclusively" (and its synonyms) an American problem, since it's so epidemic.

It's a classic political debate trick - present the other side of the political not as they are, but with crude, hyperbolic caricatures of their beliefs, and then pillory them when they don't live up to the caricature.

There isn't a single thread on this forum that says, "Fundamentalist Christians are a problem in Europe!"

we all have fundamentalists, but out of the developed countries there are few that have fundamentalists actually threatening the system.

Exceptions would be Jean-Marie Le-Pen getting to the final round in the french election, a homosexual hating catholic being put forward as equal rights minister by Italy and creationists in the USA

I remember the rock throwing on the buses since it happened not far away from where I live (like 2-3 kilometres away). I don't know wether they were muslim or not (and I couldn't care less) but it was the talk of the month at the time.

So basically I have never experienced anything of what it says in the article, since I live in a small and quite peacefull community, only read and heard about it.

Unfortunately even here there are extremists. I would imagine because overall it is rarer, it gets greater media attention (in Swedish media and perhaps also in foreign media) when it does occur... I really don't know.

I hadn't heard of the Uppsala incidents though, I must admit...

Runar isn't even really a fundamentalist. He's just a loon known for believing he can heal people by laying hands on them, who got famous because he married someone famous.

If you look at his beliefs they're not very fundamentalist at all. They're just loony, and there is a difference between the two.

What's wrong with Sweden?

Liberal politicians have eliminated barriers to immigration, and are now seeing a number of third world savages who think they have the right to kill to avenge an insult to their religion comming into the country. Sweden is commited to civil rights, equality, and multiculturalism, and now has to find a way to rapidly assimilate the savages into it's society without violating their rights.
