this is NOT an argument thread. if u want to argue, you can go to one of the many other threads that have been taken over by arguments. this is for people who either:
a) want to know more about Christianity
b) are thinking of becoming a Christian
c) are a newborn Christian, but want help.
I'm hoping against hope that there will be some of you on here.
God bless you all.

I'm a Christian - and a fairly recent one at that - but I prefer to take my questions to my parish priest. Last time I took advice from the internet, I ended up drugged up and tied to a radiator in Caracas.

that sounds like an interesting story.....seems wise to take advice from a priest instead of me..... :(

I kid about the Caracas thing, but not about the priest thing. He's a great guy and obviously quite the Biblical scholar. No offence to you. Your intentions are good. :)

So, were your past priest experiences the reason why you're off the organised religion thing, or is it more of a personal ethical thing? The only reason why I ask is that I'm actually planning on going into the priesthood myself and so obviously that sort of thing is kind of important to me.

Huh. My curiousity is totally peaked at this point. I wish you could tell me why. =/

Past experiences the reason I do not like the organization part ... internal introspection along with long thought and studdy why I lost the faith

Yeah, I guess I can see where you're coming from. We all have our different means of exploring our spirituality and if the solitary study and introspection works for you, who am I (or anyone else) to stand in the way, right?

Ohh deffinatly dont get me wrong I dont think that just because what happened to me makes all christians evil or anything like that, it is just not my way
You have every right to believe what you want :) though if you start moving beyond the belief part to presenting it as absolute truth for everyone without facts to back it up ya will get an arguement
:)
But believe what makes you feel most right ...

maybe this is just my horrible luck for going to an alliance church(pastors, totally awesome dudes) and a catholic school, but most priests that i know are boring, nerdy, stupid, rigid, conservative, and unwilling to talk about any questions u actually have about God.

Wow. Sounds like something serious turned you off from the whole church experience at some point in the past. I'm almost afraid to ask.

I should mention I'm working on becoming an Episcopal priest. Slightly different than the Roman-Catholic counterparts in terms of ideology (though there are a great many enlightened Roman Catholic priests - you just have to find them). All of the Episcopal priests I've met have been utterly delightful men and women though, and completely open to all questions (in fact they tend to encourage tough questions).

i don't think you quite get my church, but ok....my parents actually grounded me from going to church for a couple weeks, cuz i got there way to often. i usually spend 6 days a week at church services or activities, just cuz they're soo much fun and i can always actually feel God's presence...

Its fine (and I hate bringing this up cause it always feels like I am slaming christianity when I dont mean to) I had one of "thoes priests" for 2+ years of my life (4th to 6th grade)
I went into a rather long rant thread a few weeks ago (the gag order from the dioceese just was overturned)
Its fine but it seriously fucks with my head somedays, I go for wedings and funerals yes because family means that much to me. but I wont go just for the hell of it
and it has not gotten easer over the years and I dont expect it to.
Even if I fell back into the faith (wont happen) I will never be a churchgoer

Sorry that sounds too much like the draw of a cult almost to me. But if you enjoy spending time with friends and such there go for it.

Wow. That's horrible. I actually don't feel like your grievance is slamming Christianity. You're just slamming the certain kinds of horrible people who abuse their position for evil aims. Even though I'm not Catholic, I obviously feel like it reflects badly on all of us who are either in or considering a life in the priesthood.
I hope that in spite of what happened, it hasn't fucked with your entire life.

In some ways it has ... but I have to deal with it (thinks like having kids are out of the question (stats my therapist quoted me a few years ago was that people who have been aboused are 23 times more likly to abuse their kids))
Even if it is a little off still much to much of a risk for me to take with children
Anyways no problems it is not the faith I had problems with rather the organization
Life is too short to hold grudges :fluffle:
