I don't have a for sure date. The money for construction can only be donated by Baha'is from around the world. Did you watch the whole thing?

The building is beautiful, as are all the Bahai temples I've seen.

I find it odd that they have a computer animated promo video, complete with mystical music though.....religion in the 21st century, I guess.

I'm wondering why that is odd?

Yes, I watched it. Did I miss the part when they mentioned that they don't have a sure date? I thought that the video, and music were really cool.

I'm wondering why that is odd?Because its all so slick and buisness like. It's shouting WE'RE A MODERN, EASTHETICALLY PLEASING AND PEACEFUL RELIGION JOIN US AND GIVE US YOUR MONEY NOW.

At least I felt that way.

Sorry you felt that way. The reality of it is totatly different. And what's wrong with peace. "Give peace a chance." Was first spoken by Abdul' Baha in 1912 at Stanford University.

I may have missed a completion date. If there is one I am unaware of it. It will be built within the next few years.

Maybe its just a reaction to the unfamiliar and new mediums religion is making use of. I have nothing against peace, and know sufficiently little about the Bahai religion the have anything against it.

Very pretty. We Quakers tend not to build too many eye-catching religious structures, but we admire it in others. :)

They say it's going to be a "Mother Temple". I don't know what that means in the context of the Bahai religion, but it sounds important. I'm guessing that the Bahai have a small number of "Mother Temples" around the world and that these "Mother Temples" more more highly regarded or more revered, somehow, than most other temples.

I've seen the entire video. There's also an essay at the end of the video that explains the whole project in more detail. It'll be a beautiful building once it's built.

What, precisely, is "The Greatest Name" in the Bahai religion? I don't know anything about the Bahai.

"Think about it for a moment."

The "Mother Temple" is the first Temple built in a continent. So it is the first of many.

"The Greatest Name is an Invocation and a symbol of Our Faith"

"Concerning your question regarding the 'Greatest Name': The Greatest Name is an invocation which means 'O Thou of Glories'! The word Baha', or "Glory", is a reference to Bahá'u'lláh. The Greatest Name is a distinctive mark of the Cause and a symbol of our Faith. The term of 'Allah-u-Abha, on the other hand, is a form of Bahá'í greeting, and means 'God the All Glorious.'"

Every Baha'i Temple is open to the public except on a few occasions when it is in use by the Bahai's and there is no room for visitors. There are Mothers Temples in USA, India, Central America, Austrialia, Germany, Uganda and Samoa. They all look different, but are all nine-sided, with a dome.

Lovely building ... like something out of Myst. :D

I'm not really big on the whole worldly outward displays of grandeur thing, but it's a very nice building and I'm all for anything that gets people together in peace and brotherhood.

Incidently, all the benches are designed there to be facing someone. Who are the Baha'i priests and how does a person become one?

No priests or ministers or mullah's, for that matter, in the Baha'i Faith. Everyone is responsible for their own spiritual understanding according to Baha'u'llah. So you can't become a Baha'i priest. There is a place for people read from the Holy Scriptures of the worlds religions--not for a priest to preach. The building is designed to reflect the attributes of God.

I dunno much about the Baha'i, but the temple is beautiful! I think that if that much love, care, and thought were put into all modern architechture, the human race might not be dealing with all of the problems that it has today. Call me crazy, but I think that surroundings have a direct impact on state of mind.

I might be interesting to compare the histories and architectures of the various cultures in history.

The number nine represents unity. Nine is the highest single digit number. That is the simple answer. I can look later and find you a more indepth answer. No doubt that the architect belief in the unity of God, humanity and all of the world's revealed religions can be found in the design of this Temple.
