The Lovely Bones

Have any of you ever read The Lovely Bones by Alice Sebold? Many of you may know I love to read (I'm a book worm sometimes :D), and I was just wondering if anyone else here has ever read.
It is a really good book; very emotional and disturbing. Although, I doubt many guys will like it much, I think many women would rather enjoy this book. And no, it's not really a love story.
It is about the rape and murder of a fourteen year old girl. The book goes through how she watcheds from her heaven as her family goes to hell and her murderer deceives everyone including her family, while her case goes unsolved and her body never found.
It's a really interesting book actually. There is something in every chapter bound to get to you somehow.
I suggest reading it if you have not. If you have, let's hear what you have to say. My opinion may be baised.

I'll be sure to catch the movie. Sounds like it would make a great date movie.

I am not aware of any movie out about this book or one in the making. But hey, order popcorn just in case.

Judging from your discription of the plot, I am going to need a big tub of popcorn, as it will be a long time before that movie hits major theaters.
On another note, what is the backstory for the title? I read it initially as The Lonely Bones, but The Lovely Bones is much more enigmatic.

This part is.. well there's no real words to describe it:
"[SNIP NAME] made me lie still underneath him and listen to the beating of his heart and the beating of mine. How mine skipped like a rabbit, and how his thudded, a hammer against cloth. We lay there weith our bodies touching, and I, as I shook, a powerful knowledge took hold. He had done this thing to me and I had lived. That was all. I was still breathing. I heard his heart. I smelled his breath. The dark earth surrounding us smelled like what it was, moist dirt where worms and animals lived their daily lives. I could have yelled for hours.
I knew he was going to kill me. I did not realize then that I was an animal already dying."

I read this book a couple years ago. It was very good, I've been thinking about reading it again. Didn't it recently come out in paperback?

It is a quote that is stated in the book. It kind of addressing one of the issues of the book; how sometimes death can lead to good things.

I read it. Thought it was alright..the heaven bit I wasn't too big on, due to my own beliefs. As for disturbing...I've heard alot of things, and dealt with them..so..no,wasn't that, for me.
And,fyi, I'm male. :p

Well, let's say the reason I read it was very disturbing. Hence the reason I stated that my opinion may be baised.
Parts of the heaven bit I was kind of cynical of, but overall, I thought it was good. It got really good when the husband went to the cornfield and the wife had that affair.

Ahh. Well, the details and plot, I found, were good, but..I suppose I wanted more. It just felt somewhat lacking, from what I recall. Or is that just me?

read it, liked it, i'm not sure its quite as great as everyones seems to say it is, but it does have a simply spectacular title. i have a bit of a fetish for great evocative titles.

I liked it. It is not my favorite; I am a more war/history kind of reader, but I thought it was a good change.

It's allright I guess but it doesn't really have a cohesive plot. It seemed a bit pointless when I read it, didn't really live up to all the hype I'd heard. And I'm a woman, but a kind of blokey one. *shrugs* Maybe my expectations were too high.

I guess I heard nothing about it before I read it so my expectations couldn't have been wrong. But I read it for personal reasons......the book kind of hit a personal subject with me.
