Does it have to be a jpg? For this type of image a gif would be a lot smaller and has all the colour depth you need.

if its for NS flag as far as i remember it has to be jpg :(
http://www.hlj.me.uk/pics/nsflag23ke%202.JPG
is about 5kb and looks ok
http://www.hlj.me.uk/pics/valiantestflagjpeg6ss%202.JPG
suffers a bit (8kb)
http://www.hlj.me.uk/pics/valiantestflagjpeg6ss%203.JPG (bit better)
i used corel photo paint, but thats expensive. search download.com or something if you want to do it yourself
edit: nice artwork btw

In that case change the compression ration as you save the jpg. (Use paint shop pro or some such for this). Do this stepwise until the size gets down to where you want. The jpg image format does not like circles very much , if it were possible to lose the circle and make it a square box instead, the compression would also be improved.

(Thanks; The elaborate one I altered a bit in photoshop nothing more but the circle one I did in Adobe Illustrator) The first one looks great but I literally cringed at the last two. Guess Ill use the first one! Thanks for the help guys!

there's probably a way to make the compression look better on the last two but i'm tired...
making it a little smaller would certainly help

Actually, I do believe you can upload GIF images as well even though it says otherwise.

Reducing the bit-depth for each image should help a lot. A flag rarely uses more than 16 colors, which means a 4-bits depth. 8-times less than 24-bit depth. And you may get away with 3-bits (8 colors).
