Do so many people type "teh"? Is that just a typo, a mistake made when people try to type the word "the"? Or is it some sort of internet slang? Someone just tell me what the heck it is supposed to mean.

It means "the" and is either a typo or internet slang based on a typo.

Yes, those crazy internet slang people.

"Teh" = The
"Pwn" = Own
"Roxxorz" = Rocks
"Kno" = Know

... and the list goes on.

I think lots of people do it on purpose. Bugs the crap outta me. I can take an honest typo (I make tons of them!) but don't try to make yourself look dumb. And this "kewl" business is lame as well.

It's l33tsp33k. It's an internet text dialect. Typoes are sometimes deliberate.
l33t = leet, as in elite. Teh = the. There's heaps more. it's a bit ironically humourous.

haha good point. In spoken conversation they just use terms like "owned" and "haxored". However if you're talking to them via the written/typed word it's in leet. I think it's silly but to each his own.

Not only am I dyslexic, but my left hand seems the be able to type quicker than my right, so I constantly end up typing teh instead of the, for instance. But I do try and re-read what I have said before posting. :(

Yeah, the next time someone uses haxxored in actual conversation, you are perfectly justified in hitting them upside the head with a sock full of quarters.

is important to note that while "b0x0rz" appears to be leet for "boxers", it is actually from a common leet expression "r0x0r j00r b0x0rz", "b0x0rz" meaning "computers" (sometimes referred to as boxes, or among system administrators, boxen)

That's...crap.

And here I am thinking it meant boxer shorts :mad:

AHAHA. My poor boyfriend and his friends are going to be purple! Actually I won't hit Jon just his friends because I don't care about them. The talking like idiots doesn't bother me as much as it used to. I guess I have just gotten used to it. Sometimes I find myself telling my non computer savvy(and mostly female) friends that they have been "owned/pwned" and they just look at me with a blank stare like why the hell did you just say that? It infiltrates your brain...

"teh" for most people is just a typo, and the origin of "pwned" cones frm Warcraft three. there was a popular coustom map that had that when a player lost it would say "~so and so~ was just owned". But there was a typo and he wrote "pwned". the map was so popular that people began using "pwned" as a word meaning beyond owned.

Owned was not originally 1337 sp34k word, but just Rocker street slang

I'm so sorry. Consider dating within your own species next time. I mean, it's very charitable of you to attempt to date those less evolved than you, but still, it's gotta be frustrating.

Do so many people type "teh"? Is that just a typo, a mistake made when people try to type the word "the"? Or is it some sort of internet slang? Someone just tell me what the heck it is supposed to mean.

I have a peculiar typing method that's half touch and half "talon." Talon is index and ring fingers of both hands, with right thumb for the space bar. Being left-handed, the interplay between left and right required to type "the" is sometimes jumped by my quicker left hand, resulting in "teh" and occasionally "tehm" (them) and "tehse" (these).

What's weird is that I only recently developed this little idiosyncrasy. I taught myself to type on an old Smith-Corona manual typewriter back in the late 70s/early 80s. I think that, within the last five years or so, my left hand has sped up because the resistance of the keys on a modern keyboard is nothing compared to that on a manual typewriter (which, for purely aesthetic and nostalgic reasons only, I sometimes miss -- I wouldn't give up MS Word for the old Smith-Corona). So I see this error a lot and it drives me nucking futs.

Another typing problem I have is my apparent affection for the left "shift" key. I have to scour my posts and emails for double capital letters. I think it's because I've recently outsourced the shit job to my left pinky, and it doesn't have the quickness of my other digits.

Holy crap, that's a lot more than you needed to know. Sorry.

Oh, and "leet" really, really, REALLY sucks ass. These people need to go the hell outside.
