I dont know what Jeremy Paxman was on about. So what if the Labour Candidate was a black women and George Galloway is a man from Scotland!

The people of Bethnal Green chose him, not her. That is what democracy is about.

Why the hell should the people of Bethnal Green have to be represented by an MP that voted to go to war with a Muslim nation when a huge number of the people in the constituency were not only against the war but also Muslims?

George Galloway hit the nail on the head when he said that Paxman was actually conducting one of the most (even by his standards) absurd interviews, and to think I used to like Paxman.

I think that Paxman's becoming overly impressed by his own image. He appears to be turning into Chris Morris, which is rather bizarre.

Had it been any other MP being interviewed I would have rgeed with you that Paxmans questions were out of order.

But this is George Galloway. He ran a filthy campign, exploited racial tensions and ousted a very good constituency MP simply because he wants to get back into the Commons. I really feel for Oona King. The "faces blacker than hers" comment was well out of line, as was blaming her for the deaths of 100,000.

George hardly conducted himself very well. Rather than saying King was a good candidate, colour of her skin was irrelevant but in the end the people chose him he went off on a rant and basically blamed her for the Iraq war.

'Gorgeous' George deserves no sympathy for his actions.

Paxman, what an asshole!

Galloway came across as an egomaniac, but considering that he has just become RESPECT's first MP, that's understandable.

I am an American who is woefully ignorant of foreign politics. However, I do know a lot about irresponsible media, and this interview may be the most nasty example of poor and irresponsible journalism that I have seen. This Paxman's personal vendetta is immediately more visible and absurd than those of any of the journalistic caricatures on Fox News.

I think Jeremy Paxman was pretty off in that interview, which is a shame, because I usually like the way he verbally assaults politicians. He really lowered the tone by constantly referring to skin colour.

The other guy that had been talking earlier on was pretty bad as well, saying that he'd only won the muslim vote because muslims were all sexist and didn't want a woman MP. Who is the one being prejudiced here?

The racial rubbish and the vindictiveness on both sides aside, I'm quite glad Respect won over New Labour at least somewhere. I'm not totally convinced by Galloway, but I'm even less convinced by King, who is really just another Blairite in my eyes.

- He wasn't just blaming her for the 100,000 deaths, he was blaming Tony Blair and all who agreed with him. Ok, it's a dramatic and accusative metaphor, but it's hardly a personal attack.
