Yes, the tory party are quick to turn those flaming torches from their posters onto their leader.

Bullshit if u read the article you'd learn it was an independent decision by him to step down and where people were saying the tories were gonna lose support they actually increased it .

Michael Howard says it was an independant decision. From the way in which past tory leaders have gone, I am inclined to think he left because he was worried they might chuck him before the next election.

Where did that sudden lash out come from? I never said anything about support for the tories. It appears you're feeling very defensive after the election.

I'm not bitter about the election because I knew the conservatives weren't going to win anyway, i just resent ur implication that the tories were going to boot him out as most people well know that there have been no reports of major tory unease of Michael Howard's leadership. I'm not a hardcore tory as you might expect me to be I just don't like people insinuating things that are most likely completely untrue.

Well it's certainly true that recently at least, tory leaders seem to face far more pressure than other leaders.

That is quite true in that both William hague and Ian Duncan Smith wouldn't have lasted long if they had clung on to leadership after the election but I'm talking about Michael Howard here not past tory leaders he has actually mobilised grass roots support in a way Hague or Duncan Smith couldn't and I doubt there would be many objections within the party for him to stay on but as Howard says he's getting on in age the party needs young leadership if they are going to defeat Labour.
