So, this hasn't been done in a while... Anyway, list your favorite teams!

My Favorites
-------------

NCAA Football: Pittsburgh Panthers. Gotta love the Blue and Gold. Oh, and Tyler Palko's another great QB from Southwestern Pennsylvania. And don't forget about Larry Fitzgerald... It sucks that he ended up in Phoenix.

NFL: Pittsburgh Steelers. Big Ben, Hines Ward, Jerome Bettis. Need I say more? Oh, and the uniforms are great. Too bad U.S. Steel's all but dead!

NBA: Houston Rockets. Yao Ming, Tracy McGrady, and the up-and-coming Bob Sura. They've got a shot at the Championship (I just hope they kill Dallas on Saturday).

MLB: Houston Astros. Roger Clemens, Craig Biggio, and Andy Pettite... What more do you need?

I don't really care, so long as England wins the rugby and the cricket. (Which doesn't seem to be happening at the moment).

I also like it when the Mets do well.

Everyone else can fuck off.

I've been living in Wisconsin, for 16 years, but I was born in Minneapolis...my dad got me into sports at a very young age, and the home roots took hold and have never let go. :)

I had the misfortune to developm my sense of "home team" in Seattle. As a result, I've had precisely TWO championships to celebrate since moving here in 1979 (Supersonics, NBA, 1979; Storm, WNBA, 2004). I don't count the University of Washington Huskies' co-National Championship in NCAA (National Collegiate Athletic Assn., for all the non-USers) Football from 1991 for two reasons, 1) I didn't attend that school (the school I attended is NCAA Division III...a whole lotta who cares) and 2) it was shared with The University of Miami).

So I'm stuck with teams who are masters of hiring bad GMs (current Sonics GM Wally Walker couldn't manage his way out of a wet paper bag), hiring lame duck coaches (Tom Flores, Dennis Erickson, Paul Westphal, Rene Lachemann, Mike Lefevbre, George Karl, Mike Holmgren), botching their draft picks (anyone remember Brian Bosworth or slugger Mark McGwire's useless quarterback brother?), and choking when they get close (Shawn Kemp couldn't sink free throws in 1994 and the Sonics became the first and only #1 seed to lose to a #8 seed in the NBA Playoffs).

The Seattle spirit seems to be "if it's a lousy idea, stick with it." This began long ago -- the first mayor of Seattle, Henry Yesler, was a crook (sold city park land and pocketed the profits, held a citywide lottery and "won" it, and sued the city council over a tax bill and, as mayor, settled out of court with himself for a huge sum) that we RE-ELECTED. TWICE. Honestly I have no idea why I still root for the home team. I am a terminal underdog lover, I suppose.

Seattle has no NHL hockey team, so I go with my birthplace for that -- Detroit Red Wings.

We also have no Major League Soccer franchise, so I watch a lot of English Premier League via cable. I became a fan of Liverpool because I liked the play of guys like Robbie Fowler, Steve McMenaman and Nicky Butt (okay, that name just made me giggle, but still...). I thought Eric Cantona was a great player but I could never get behind Man U. because they seemed like an all-too-popular side. Kinda like the UK's Dallas Cowboys or New York Yankees. I can't bear either of those teams...mostly because so many people who don't live in either city or have ANY ties to either city claim to be fans. I hate bandwagoneers. Like all of those Bulls fans when Jordan was playing. Where were they the first couple of years when they weren't winning championships? Wearing fucking L.A. LAKERS jerseys, that's where.

So yeah. I'm a home team fan. Go Supersonics, Seahawks, Mariners and UW Husky/Gonzaga U Bulldogs basketball.

Gotta love my Seahawks. I got started in sports in the early 80's. Going to some of those games in 1983, and 1984 was otherworldly. The spectacular NFL noise rule. I was at the game where Elway called for a noise check and got waved off. Haha. And Kenny Easley, aww yeah. The Enforcer. After Hamlin's first season I had high hopes he'd be the second coming, maybe this year.... But man do I miss the Kingdome.

As far as the Sonics, I'm glad they're doing well, but I haven't really been a fan since they got rid of Downtown Freddie Brown, and kept that albino freak Sikma.

Overall Seattle is just a horrible city for sports. It's all the growth during the 80's and 90's. Now it's all fair weather fans, and in the case of the people running the Mariners, pussy farmers. WTF? You can't wear a Yankees suck T-shirt. Humiliating.

That said, minor league baseball has always been more fun. And the Thunderbirds are a blast. \o/

They still have work to do. For instance getting their damn receivers to not drop the damn ball in the damn end zone, during the damn playoffs.

Grrr. I've followed them since 1977, and they've had some bright spikes, but I keep getting reminded by the Pack fans here that they've never had any real run deep into the playoffs.

In 1983 the "Cinderella Seahawks" were one game out of the Superbowl thanks to their only playoff road vicotry, where they went in and took away Dan Marino's superbowl dreams. They ultimately lost to the Raiders (who won the Superbowl), on a bad call, having already beaten the bitches both times in the regular season that year. --snip--

Ah, I remember that game. I was screaming like mad through all four quarters. Those were the days. I went to one Seahawks game in our old concrete castle -- loud doesn't begin to describe the fan noise. The sound and vibration made me feel like I was an active tattoo needdle inside a rock polisher while a million people roared "GO SEAHAWKS!" at the exhortation of the legendary Bill the Beer Man. I remember The Wave when it was cool (and it once was -- it was invented in Seattle at a UW Husky football game).

And the personnel -- you mentioned Easley; and there was sure-handed Steve Largent (who just recently suffered a minor stroke); the brick-wall defensive line of Jeff Bryant, Joe Nash and Jacob Greene; third down crash-test-dummy Paul Skansi; pick-happy cornerback Paul Moyer; sure-footed scoring machine Norm Johnson; nimble Curt Warner and crushing fullbacks like Dan Dooornink (who was really a converted tight end and caught a lot of passes) and later John L. Williams; and even fumble-bunny Dave Krieg, who is still our best-ever quarterback.

I was hooked, though by lefty QB Jim Zorn (I am left-handed and became a fan three years before moving to the area -- I was considered the oddball being in California and liking the Seahawks) and his partner in lunacy, kicker Efren Herrera. Then-coach Jack Patera had them doing everything BUT kicking field goals on fourth down. What non-athletic and geeky sports fan WOULDN'T love a team so hopelessly underdogged?

I do prefer the new uniforms, and I've been to Seahawks Sta...uh, sorry "Qwest Field" (damned corporate logo feces is everywhere...at least "Safeco Field" has a ring to it) a few times, but it's been more of the same under Holmgren. If there a way to lose, the 'Hawks will find it. That Monday Night game versus Dallas last season and Keyshawn Johnson's NON-touchdown...I still seethe about our now-legendary collapses. It's just as bad as the Vinny Testaverde thing against the Jets back in, what, 1999?

But I still love my home teams. I'm a masochist, I guess.

I would just like to add that the Mariners have Ichiro. This means that you have to like them, no matter how many games they win.

Agreed!

Ichiro is amazing.

Ah, I remember that game. I was screaming like mad through all four quarters. Those were the days.
How could you forget Mike Tice? But Joe Nash does have the coolest sack I've ever seen to his credit. The opposing QB snapped the ball, and just fell down. No one even figured out what happened until the replay. Nash reached through the center's legs and just yanked the poor bastards foot. Still, Easley will always have a special place in my heart, and he did have the second best poster (The Steve Largent Blue Angel Poster, that was beyond awesome). What Dave lacked in velocity or armstrength he more than made up for in creativity, he's got some of the greatest escapes ever, and I think he's still in the top 30 all time QB list. And if he got there while being a NFL fumble record holder, it's only more impressive in it's own odd way.

But man the Kingdome.... There is something special about screaming at the top of your lungs, and not really being sure that you're screaming at all because you can't hear *anything*. I can only imagine what that must have been like on the field, under the concrete parabola. A crushing silence. That was the best home field advantage. At that could be sustained for SOOOO long.

Shaun could learn or thing or two from some of Curt's films though. And I must say, I like the new colors, but prefer the old logo.

I am not really interested in any other sport. So only American Football and Baseball (my favorite sport) apply to me.

Yankees, of course. To a lesser extent, the Rangers and Jets.

When you're from New York, you don't really have a choice when it comes to baseball... It's kinda in your blood.

I really don't understand why everybody loves to see Real Madrid lose... its not their fault that they're the FIFA Team of the century... *pout*

Its mainly caus I dislike Raul for the 'goals' he has scored with his hand (he has done it twice i think) and run away and celebrated despite the replays showing how he had scored, he didn't even apologise afterwards. To me he is a cheat, a superbly skilled, sublime finishing and technically perfect cheat. But thats just me.

That and I am a sucker for supporting the under dogs! :D

We dislike Real because with all they players they buy, they can't win anything because they have no idea how to defend. They spend a fortune on winning nothing, basically were jealous of their wealth, same with Chelsea here in England.
