I went out with some friends to Boston Pizza last night. It was noisy, and it was packed, but Boston Pizza's usually pretty kid friendly so it was sort of to be expected. So we're eating, and my friends are amusing themselves by making faces at little kids and trying to get them to either laugh or cry without the parent noticing us. One of my friends had chosen a little girl at the next table. The girl never seemed to notice, though my friend kept on trying.
Well, the whole meal went like this. We were all pretty well-behaved beyond the funny faces and glares we were tossing around, not drinking, not dancing on the tables and singing poorly. My friend just glared at the girl every now and then, but I guess the mom caught on. As the little girl's mother gathered her daughters to leave, she came by our table.
She said, "Was my daughter bothering you?"
My friend, not wanting to get caught making faces at kids for no reason, first said, "No." Then she added, "Well, she was pretty loud." trying to make some excuse for her faces.
The mother said "So is everyone here tonight. Shooting her dirty looks was going to change that?"
My friend flushed and said nothing.
The rest of us felt pretty bummed as the mother went on about kid-free meals and lounges and such. None of us said anything - we were too sad about our amusement being killed like that.
Maybe I should've said something. I feel as though our point didn't really get across, since we didn't say anything, but oh well...
(( Sinuhue, just messing with you :D Feel free to ask me to delete this. ))
