It appears that cadets at the air force academy are being pressured to become evangelical Christians in spite of the constitution and values of the nation that they are pledging to defend.

Possibly. I wasn't impressed with the CNN article, try this one for a more comprehensive (albeit abridged) view at the issue :http://blog.au.org/2005/04/is_the_air_forc.html

It doesn't really matter to me if, to quote the CNN article: "Nearly 50 percent of non-Christian cadets surveyed said classmates have a low tolerance for those who do not "follow a religion" or "believe in a divine being."" This does not equate to an violation of anyone's rights or constitute an offical endorsement of a specific religion. I find what looks like an actual endorsement of evangelical christianity to be troublesome as well as an actual intolerance for the exercise of other religions.

However while I find the accusations worrying and worthy of investigation, I have to reserve judgement. If, for example, mandatory exercises are held on Tet, Yom Kippur, during Ramadan and on Easter Sunday then there is no real problem with favoring one religon over any other, even though religous people may be upset about it. Don't know enough to be sure, but is worthy of a second look.

personally I was concerned about the rather serious cases of sexual harassment and rapes that occured...

in any case, the Air Force needs to get its act together. Otherwise maybe the Air Force should have get its officers through West Point or Annapolis like they used to ...at least those two instutions fixed their serious problems a decade or more ago (depending on which school we are discussing)

Sickening. Seperation of church and state should be strongest in the military, a state orginization.
