The Space Thread

There are two other threads deicated to the 'Big Bang' so i thought i would create a thread for all other conversations regarding Space.

Heres something interesting:

There has been a discovery of a planetary orbit around the star 51 Pegasus.

Whats so interesting you say?

It so close to the star that it only takes 4.2 days to make a complete orbit!!
Surely it should be burnt to a molten pile rubble and noxious gasses?

here is a decent site for info on this:

What? the planet or the link?

The planet is extremely wierd.

it would take around half a million years to travel there.

Its not a planet, its an alien spaceship. Only this explains why it hasn't melted, anybody who says otherwise is a witch.

I had a theory that there is an advanced race with superior technolgy who made a weather dome to protect their planet.

I am using this theory in my Book.

If any of you conspiracy freaks read the website i provided there is no way it could be a spaceship.

Th Prime Minister Of Erikizy states,''There are enough problems on our planet to start thinking about invading other's''.

(Civilian states, ''We should leave our prime minister here and the rest of us move to any planet he is not on'')

Ah: what you should have done here is:

except with square brackets at the start and finish, or ...

I haven't checked the link because I have link phobia, but if the planet has a high enough gravitational pull, it can retain its mass, even if its upper atmosphere is extremely hot. If the molecules in the atmosphere are moving at a speed lower than the planet's escape velocity, they will stay. For example, hydrogen is very light and often picks up enough speed to escape into space on earth, but, oxygen and other, heavier gasses move too slowly to escape. The planet didn't form that close to the star, but was swung into the close orbit via interaction with another body. It's also possible for planets to be swung out into the depths of space.

The planet has loads of noxious gases suggesting that it had a lot of metal on it:

(Potassium, sulphur eg...)

They know the planet has a lot of noxious gases? But we can't analyse the composition of extra solar planets yet. Perhaps you mean the star has lots of noxious gases? This might mean the star has swollowed a planet. Gulp! Or maybe the planet is close enough to have lost some atmospere to the star?
