How should I spoil my ballot paper.

Anarchic Conceptions

After seeing the results for my constituency from the last general election:

http://img57.echo.cx/img57/4435/electionresults7rg.png

It is pretty inevitable Labour will get in, again. Also non of the parties really represent what I believe in (no surprise really). But since I will probably be going to the polling station anyway I may as well do something whilst my sister decides which elected dictator she prefers.

Unfortunately, I'm not particuarly creative and also a little bored at the moment since I've had to prepare a presentation on a pretty boring topic, so I'll throw this question to NS generalites.

How should I spoil my ballot paper?

(Poll coming)

I'm willing to hear all suggestions, and if you want to flame me for my lack of democratic spirit, feel free.

::EDIT:: I'm sure I put an "Other" option there

Never disaprove of any of its actions. If it throws a temper tantrum, give in to what it wants. Reward it when it does something wrong. Never carry through on your threats of punishment. Buy it lots of expensive toys. Let it eat candy for lunch...

Take a postcard into the booth with you and scrawl the names of the parties up for election in your area on the back. Eat the ballot paper, submit the postcard (don't forget to put a tick next to the name of your favourite party, of course!).

Also, I think you should nick the pencil on a string. Replace it with one of those porn pens, though.

Well, they put your voter number on it and then anybody can go look up your voter number. I dont know if people can get access to which number voted for what though.

You could scrawl political slogans and graffiti all over your ballot paper, then yell "Oh no, I made a mistake!" and ask for another. Then (provided you get given another ballot paper) repeat steps 1-2. :)

Please don't :(

Spoiling your vote would make a difference if loads of people did it, but as it is it's mostly just as wasteful as every other candidate you can vote for. If you vote for a fringe party then you can break the two-party thing. I don't care if you vote for the Monster Raving Loony party so long as you don't vote for the Tories or Labour. Blair goes on about not letting the Tories in by the back door but honestly, there's very little between them anymore (they're both Thatcherite but in different ways). If either of them get in we're pretty much just as badly off.

Hopefully, if the Lib Dems could get into opposition then next time they'd be a real party, not just some party whole never get in. And they're the party most likely to make reforms.

Doubtful, excluding the three main parties, all other parties only managed to get 8% of the vote.

I'll lump Lib Dems in with Cons and Labour since they are largely the same (on the key things I care about, dispite what the Lib Dems think, I cannot get excited about Ovarian Cancer). UKIP automatically goes out the window. So it comes down to the Greens, "Their Party*," or one of the two independents.

I can guess what the Greens stand for, but the others are a bit harder since there doesn't appear to be a huge amount of info on them. Really, voting for a fringe party only has the same impact as spoiling the ballot. That is, only effective if lots of people do it.

*(If anyone has heard of this party, any information would be helpful)

I understand your point of view and partly agree, Anarchic Conceptions, but I think that if the two-party thing was broken, it'd make a difference in politics and shake it up a lot. Lib Dems are definitely differ a lot more from the other two, mainly by not being Thatcherite.

Though they all accept the role of the state in our lives. Also the way they have fiddled statistics, both in my constituency and nationally, to make them look luike the "real alternative" doesn't really make them trustworthy in my eyes.

Hey, why not join the Electoral Reform society? :)

The limerick will probably be easier using the incumbants name, Keith Bradley.

Though the best I can come up with is this

There was an MP called Keith,
Who I think is quite the thief,
he supported the war and increased uni fees,
So I'll spoil this an go have a reef :)

I know it isn't good. Told you I wasn't creative :(

Vote for every party in the entire country, even ones that aren't running in your constituency. Make up a few just to be sure. Attach a crudely-drawn £50 note and a slip of paper saying "there's more where this came from if you put me down for 50,000,000 votes for the Lovely Llama Party". Maybe put a few lipstick-smudged kisses on it to make you look like a really obsessive voter. You could wipe your arse on it if you really wanted to, but I can recommend some much softer varieties of paper to use instead.

But you're playing NationStates! :)

If you're basically objecting to all and any government that's a different thing. My nation is based on a very interesting form of law-system held by Ancient Ireland. There were no police - justice was upheld by everyone. *sigh* But true anarchy is something the world won't be ready for decades yet, and in the meantime I want to try to do what I can, realistically. Also, if the authority was really based on the will of the people (ie partly your own) it would be a much better thing.

There aren't any parties I like. British democracy is a sham, and any serious party is actively taking part in this sham democratic system we have.

And if you don't like any party vote for a party that is really different from those parties who got into power, leaving a message that they need to do something for their goals.
