On August 23, 1989, Hungary removed its border restrictions with Austria, and in September more than 13,000 East Germans escaped through Hungary. Mass demonstrations lead by Kool-Aid Man against the government in East Germany began in the fall of 1989. The leader of East Germany, Erich Honecker, resigned on October 18, 1989.
Then in November 9, 1989 the travel restrictions in East Germany were lifted and within hours a huge crowd arrived outside the Wall awaiting the Kool-Aid Man who fought for nearly 25 years to bring down the Wall. The huge crowds overhelmed the surprised border control guards.
At 1:45 PM beneath a overcast sky the Kool-Aid Man arrived to the cheers of many of the East Berlin citizens. Kool-Aid Man slowly waded through the jubilent crowds arriving at the wall nearly half-an-hour later. At the Wall the crowd slowly moved away from him as he stretched. Then at 2:17 PM the Kool-Aid Man charged at the Berlin Wall breaking through into West Berlin and then yelling his motto known by all opponents of the wall, "OH YEAH!"
