So what do you have? Are you glad you got it? What makes you like it so much?

An original NES, a Genesis, and a Sega CD. I like them for the classic games... Great stuff.

Does anyone know why the Sega Genesis is called Megadrive in England?

Ah, classic games ... Sonic the Hedgehog ...

I currently have:

Nintendo GameCube
Nintendo 64
Sega Megadrive
Game Boy Advance

Depends what kind of game you play. For First-person-shooters and strategy games (well, any game that uses a mouse pointer), I'd agree, but for many other games, keyboards & mice are very awkward.

X-Box. It kicks ass, better graphics than my PC or laptop, doesn't lag, and a great selection of games.

Used to have an N-64, which was also good fun.

Does anyone know why the Sega Genesis is called Megadrive in England?Sega Mega Drive is the original name, and that's what it's called in Europe and Japan. The reason it's called Genesis in the US is that another company already used the name Mega Drive there for one of their products, so Sega had to call it something else.

X-Box(Great), GameCube(Greater), N64(Even better, gamewise), SNES(god of video game consoles). PC ties with SNES. And I refuse to buy any Non-PS1 Sony Video Game products. PS1 rocked, but PS2 is riddled with crap games, like Final Fantasy X-2, God of War, Fnal Fantasy X, Kingdom Hearts, among others. PS2 pretty much KILLED SquareSoft, but Square merging with Enix killed them off. And yes, I know that Sony didn't cause Square and Enix to merge, I'm just ranting. Square and Enix are great seprately, but suck together.

System Rankings

SNES>NES>N64>(PS1=GC)>X-Box>Air>Second Hand Smoke>The Underworld> PS2 with the Sega consoles around the PS1, GC, and N64.

Oh cool, we got the original name. Not like Starfox/Starfox 64 (became Star Wing and Lylat Wars, but then Nintendo decided to just buy the copyright).

Both Playstations, Game Gear, Game Boy, original nintendo, and sega genesis.

My personal favorite goes to Playstation 2. I've played around on its two current competitors (Gamecube and X-Box) but neither has as high quality of games as the PS2 does.

I got the "Sonic Mega Collection" for my Gamecube - all the megadrive sonic games are within. I wish they'd do that for other Megadrive games - I'm scared I'll break my megadrive if I use it.

OoT is a good game. I've played it many times. I was lucky enough to get a special edition copy of The Wind Waker, which came with a bonus disc containing Ocarina of Time (both original and Master Quest versions).

PCs have plenty of nice games too (I like Quake III and Neverwinter Nights among others), but I get annoyed by things like hardware requirements (Doom 3 chugs like hell on my PC) and computer crashes.

PS2 pretty much KILLED SquareSoft.

it was not the PS2 that killed SquareSoft, it was the flop of the movie Final Fantasy The Spirts With In. The movie was fine but it had nothing to do with Final Fantasy.

The last console I had was an Atari 2600

I jumped straight to Commodore 64 after that, then Amiga, and now PCs.

I own:

A PS2 with a network adapter, which was cool when I used it in college except when I played some brain-dead assnozzle whose Pause button was stuck on and had a 28.8 connection.

A Gamecube, which I use once in a while to frustrate myself with Super Smash Bros. Melee.

A Genesis, which kicks royal ass except for the fact that none of its games have a Save feature, so I can't save my Sonic 3D Blast games.

An N64, which has some pretty good games but presently is in my brother's custody.

A Super NES, which is also supremely awesome except that my fiancee owns it and I don't.

And a laptop PC with cable internet so I can play the single greatest game ever created - well, OK, it's second to Super Mario Bros. 3:

God I hope HTML works.

Guess not. I'll try again.

The hell with it. Copy and paste the link and give me your best scores. And the old version is better than the new verison. P.S. What the fuck is an "umber hulk"?

Ah, SSBM, one of my favourites.

Sonic the Hedgehog 3 has a save game feature. This can be used in conjunction with Sonic & Knuckles if you plug the former into the latter's top slot.

Sonic 2 doesn't, though...not that I need it for that game...it's Sonic Spinball and Sonic 3D Blast that need them. I think the Saturn version of 3D Blast has a save feature, but the Genesis version (and the Gamecube port) do not.

XBox and Megadrive 2

The Megadrive 2 is just the same as the Megadrive, but has 8 bit sound rather than 16 bit sound. Apparently there was a problem with occasional crashes with the 16 bit sound on the original Megadrive.

I bought the xbox after playing at my brother-in-laws place. I love the social aspect, often my girlfriend and housemates and I all join in a multiplayer game, sitting in the lounge, joking and having fun. It's a great atmosphere that you don't get so much on the PC.

Which is why I'm so annoyed that 90% of the xbox games are still single player, and have little to no significant multiplayer or cooperative gameplay.
I don't buy games unless it supports at least two players, preferably cooperative.

(Except for Thief: Deadly Shadows. Eidos did so much good with that one, everyone should play it)

The Megadrive 2 is just the same as the Megadrive, but has 8 bit sound rather than 16 bit sound. Apparently there was a problem with occasional crashes with the 16 bit sound on the original Megadrive. Not only that, which results in far higher noise levels, but the sound amplifier of the MD II is also underpowered, causing the sound level to drop to about half every time a bass sound is played. It then climbs up to "normal" levels if no low-frequent sounds are being played in a couple of seconds, and then drops again as soon as a bass sound is played again.

In game music using loud drum samples somewhat rapidly, it results in the sound level constantly changing, as it's kept pretty low but increases a bit between every drum sample only to be reduced again.

The result is that it sounds sharp and heavily overcompressed, not too different from the result of totally squashing the dynamic range of a track using a low-quality hard-knee compressor using high attack and release settings.

Super Monkey Ball, Mario Party 4 & 6, and SSBM all say you're wrong. Unless you don't have people to play with in which case you're screwed.
