What is your favorite starship design from any sci-fi series?

Mine would have to be The Reman Warbird Scimitar. It's freakishly huge and has 52 disruptor banks, 27 torpedo bays, primary and secondary shielding, a perfect cloaking device that emits no tachyons or residual antiprotons(and doesn't restrict firing while cloaked), and a thalaron radiation weapon that is capable of killing all forms of life on the entire surface of a planet(one microscopic speck of the stuff can kill over 800 people at a time).

I haven't gotten into the technical stuff for Star Trek vessels, so I'm going with looks (and seriously, the technical specifications for Star Wars ships are crap).

I'd have to say the Millennium Falcon. It looks so clunky and broodish, yet it just has some sort of flair to it.

sounds too godmodish.

I like the Mon Calamari Star Cruisers from Star Wars as well as the X-Wings and TIE Defendors. I also love the Republic Blockade Runner (think: first ship that appears in Episode IV: A New Hope). Other than that. . .well, I like the Archangel from Tachyon, but thats a game. I also kinda like the Predator from Farscape.

The question is though, which ship would you want to take to war? The ones you just listed or a Reman Warbird?
Cannot think of a name

Tie Interceptors look pretty menacing.

I actually like the 2001 ship. That'd probably be my favorite.

Or something like the Flash Gordon/Buck Rogers ships from the serials.

Well thats got to be the Death Star without a doubt... unless of course this war wasn't on another planet or species!

No, the question is 'what is our fav sci-fi ship?'

For me this would be the TARDIS, not so good in a war, but you can go back in time and prevent the war from occurring (or just help your side by letting them know what the enemy will do).

Even for space, it just sounds waaayyyy too unbelievable. I'd like the Mon Cal cruiser out of my own list. Its pretty sweet. Either that or the Archangel from tachyon. Thats just a sweet starfighter.

It was a hard choice.

The Super Star Destroyer from Star Wars competing with the X-wing... the Battlestar Galactica vs the original Enterprise... the Bistromath vs the Heart of Gold...

In the end though, it was the events that took place aboard, not the design of the ship, that made the decision. Here, modern world culture took a decisive turn. Whether for better or for worse, none can tell... but the world will never be the same. More than deflector shields leading to the invention of the flashlight, this one ship revolutionised the modern world.

Its a bit overpowered, really. Its not a ship, its a plot device. Moreover, it is a bad plot device for a poorly ploted movie.

However, it does kick butt. I'd rather be with it than against it.

There are more powerful ships. The previously mentioned Death Star, for example.

Lets not mention the sentient planet/ship/giant robot know as Unicron. The original, not the Armada/Energon version.
I'f I didn't know that the dark machine god would utterly destroy me Unicron would be my choice for favorite space vessel.

For pure retro coolness, there is the SDF-1 Macross

The Andromeda looks pretty good, is faster than any Star Wars or Star Trek ship so long as it has an organic pilot, and can depopulate a planet in a matter of minutes when fully armed. Not to mention the sexy android that comes with it.

If we're no lomited to capitol ships I'd also have to add the Vic Viper. A classic.

I'm a fan of the starfighters on the old "Buck Rogers" show with Gil Gerard and Erin Gray. Hawkman's fighter on the same show was nifty looking.

And an honorable mention for the "Gunstar" from "The Last Starfighter". There are times when I'm in traffic that I wish I had a "deathblossom" built in.

Well...there are so many variations....

1. Fighter Type - Definetly the Gunstar fighter from "The Last Starfighter"...that thing pwned :p

2. Capital Ship - I can't remember any specs on it, but I always liked the Jem' Hadar Battlecruisers.

3. Freakish Godmode - You can't beat Unicron...I don't care what you have, you just can't...it took the death of Optimus Prime and a plot device set to cheesy 80's metal to defeat him...that's as rare as all nine planets aligning.

4. All time - I've always liked the basic simplicity of your average Klingon Bird of Prey.

FIGHTER: Colonial Viper, new Battlestar Galactica series. The realistic physics and mass-driver weaponry are very cool.

CAPITAL SHIP: The Battleship Yamato (aka the Argo) from the "Live Forever Yamato" anime series that became hacked to bits as "Star Blazers" here in the US. A turreted battleship in space, complete with fighter compliment and ridiculously overkilling wave-motion gun up front. It made an impression on me as a 10-year-old that never wore off.

VIDEO GAME: The Vell-os Javelin from Escape Velocity: Nova. Mind-powered, inertialess and laced with four levels of beams that rip all those metal-based behemoths to chaff.

OVERALL: Moya from Farscape -- especially if all the singularly hot Aussie women are aboard. Aeryn Sun, Chiana, Zhaan, Jool, and even Sikozu aboard a living ship life-linked to its Pilot. One of the best-written shows (sci-fi or otherwise) ever to air.

Throw anything at it, it'll assimilate you and all your technology, then add insult to injury by making you one with the Collective :)

If the Borg are so tough then why can an old, bald man (Pick-Hard) and Captain Hairspray (Janeway) beat them every time? Even an ex-drone (Seven of Nine) has managed to get a few up on the old Borgy boogy men.

The best ship ever? Eh, my favourite is the boomstick, a cheap, and not too great Doga render of a ship I plan to use in my RPs. I'm biased, sue me :D

But in more traditional sci-fi universes... I like the Mon-cals, but they ain't my favourite. The bog-standard ISD, it's damned cool... And I do love the Peacekeeper Command Carriers. To be honest, I have no idea. I prefer more industrial ships than the pristeen tech used in most SF. But borg cubes bore me.

The Shivan Capital Ship, the SD Lucifer. http://freespace.volitionwatch.com/techfs/shots/art/dark/lucifer.jpg

A 2.227 kilometre-long ship with shields that are utterly inpenetrable unless the Lucifer is going through subspace, an insanely awesome design, massive complements of fighter and bomber crafts, three gargantuan Flux Cannons which cut through both shields and ships as if they were butter, seventeen defensive turrets and plasma cannons and the ability to bomb planets into the stone age.

Or the GTVD Colossus, the largest and most powerul ship ever constructed by the Galactic Terran-Vasudan Alliance. http://www.freespace2.com/images/ship_colossus/header.jpg

Measuring at 6127.9 metres from bow to stern, the ship bristles with over 80 weapon turrets and houses 60 wings of fighters and bombers. It harbours a crew of 30,000 and possesses more firepower than most GTVA battlegroups. It was developed as a counter-force to the Lucifer.

Earthforce Destroyer (Babylon 5). It's the most realistic design for a long-term vessel I've yet seen, and it doesn't have that annoying "Two Dimensional" layout you see with Star Treck designs, Star Worz, or Spaceballs.
