I'm lucky enough to own a copy of the War of the worlds on CD. And I love it. Don't ask me why, but I find the weird sounds and the funky beats cool. My fave track the the part with the Thunderchild. The Red weed tune is cool as well.

And I love the "ULLAH!" Sound the Tripods make. SOOOO cool.

Who else has or has listened to this masterpeice?

I have it on original vinyl. You'd probably like the Journey to the Center of the Earth musical compilation.

Yep. My brother had it on vinyl, I used to listen to it constantly when I was a kid.

Nothing beats "Eve of the War" for me. What an opening! Those heavy thrums of string kick so much ass, it's almost criminal.

The Thunderchild:

There were ships of shapes and sizes, scattered out along the bay,
And I thought I herd her calling, as the steamer pulled away!
The Invaders must have seen them, out accross the Ghostly mile.
Standing firm between them-There lay Thunderchild!

Moving swiftly through the waters, cannons blazing as she came,
Bought a mighty metal Warlord, crashing down in sheets of flame!
Sensing victory was nearing, thinking fortune must have smiled,
People started cheering: "Come on Thunderchild! Come on Thunderchild!"

Lashing ropes and smashing timbers, flashing heatrays peirced the deck,
Dashing hopes for our deliverance, as we watched the sinking wreck!
With the smoke of battle clearing, over crazy ways defiled,
Slowly disapearing... Farewell Thunderchild! Farewell Thunderchild! Farewell Thunderchild!

When the smoke had cleared, the little steamer had reached the misty horizon, and Carrie was safe. But the Thunderchild had disapeared, taking with her mans last hope of victory. The leaden sky was lit with green flashes, cylinder following cylinder, and now no-one and nothing was left now to fight them. The Earth-belonged to the martians.

thats always been my favorite part too... I have worn out a vinyl album, an 8 track, a cassette tape, and now wearing out a CD over the years listening to it... one of my favorite albums ever!

(which also tells you how ancient I am too...chuckle)

Ah, the War of the Worlds! I have it on tape and CD (maybe overkill, but meh!).
I remember, many years ago, at Junior School listening to it in class and we had to make up newspaper articles about it, it was soooo cool.
You know they're making a animated film based around the musical don't you? Can't wait for that, but it won't be out until about 2007 at the earliest :(

Jeff Wayne's Musical Version of War of the Worlds (http://www.allmusic.com/cg/amg.dll?p=amg&token=&sql=10:h83gtq2znu43)

Wow. Take me right back to 1978, why doncha? Yeah, had it on vinyl, have it on CD, and it still holds up today. Amazing how what's musically old becomes new again.

Sorry about my pendantism:

out across the ghostly mile

"Out across the coast they filed"

And there is another line that's not quite right, but I can't rember the actual words off the top of my head. Not that it's easy to understand the words to a lot of songs, it can be quite difficult to know what people are actually singing.

And yes, War of the Worlds the musical is jolly good.

There is an animated music clip to one of the songs, but I only saw it once when I was little. My brain remembers the last line as being, "I could have avoided all this if only I had given my wife to the martians." That is a little bizarre and is not in the musical. Anyone know about this?

With the smoke of battle clearing, over crazy ways defiled

This is the other line that's wrong...

Should be "With the smoke of battle clearing, over graves in waves defiled..."

War of the Worlds - my 2nd favorite "classic" sci-fi story and a great musical version here. Wonderful stuff.
