Neo-Tommunism

I've loved the 1930's cult film for a while now, but I've just recently been able to see the new Musical rendition of it. This has got to be the funniest musical I have seen in a long time. Anyone else watch it? My favorite song has got to be the jesus one. Not to mention the satire is so great. So what does anyone else think?

I have them both on On Demand cable right now. The first was painfully boring. So in the comfort of my living room, surronded by my dvd collection... well. Yeah. I had discounted the musical just based on the experience with the first one. I couldn't quite convince myself that musical parody of the tedious would somehow be entertaining (particularly in light of the fact that the producers found the original amusing in some fashion).

And on another note, if Comcasts on demand cable worked all the time, wasn't burdened by the Microsoft TV slowness, and had more stuff, I'd probably cream my pants when I got home in anticipation. (Which is, in it's own way, a minor tragedy.)

I wish I could look at that movie as satire. Sadly, I don't think attitudes towards drugs had developed quite enough by that time to devise an accurate satire: I think the filmmakers were trying to be serious. The film both amuses and disgusts me.

I was talking about the satire in the musical. The 1930's version was funny because it was so outlandish. They were trying to be serious, and it may have scared people back then, but there is no way it could now.

The movie was ok and yes the Jesus number was probably the best.
The 1938 version is just plain silly but it probably was fairly shocking back then.
