Thought about it, but senseless options (and don't say that they are not senseless!) always encourage people to vote in a funny way rather than honestly.

"Other" is not senseless; some people do not identify as "male" or "female".

Rather thought about the body. I know there are hermaphrodites and they do have problems, if they want to be recognized as such, but this is a very small minority and and as I have said before add the "other" wouldve srewed the whole poll.

There are no actual hermaphrodites. The more correct term is intersexed. Had you included it, I doubt many people would have chosen it as a joke.

Meanwhile, if you are looking for biological sex, you should say that, instead of gender. Gender is a psychological term.

If there are people on here who do identify as "other", i'm sure they'll make themselves known. And remember, even transexuals identify with a specific sex; it's just different from the one they're born with.

No need to apologize. My first language is English and I use the wrong words sometimes. I just wanted to point out that, if you want to talk about biological sex, then using the term gender will confuse some people.

Actually I did not think about that question yet. But I guess you can see and feel outer sexual characteristics, whereas it is relatively difficult to find out facts about your chromosomes. But if the chromosomes make you feel as a certain gender, then I would just say: Choose whichever gender you like better and feel happy (or dont and be happy.)

I think the word "gender" was originally a purely linguistic term, to describe languages that classify nouns into "masculine" or "feminine" - although this distinction is not the only way of classifying nouns, one other common distinction some languages make is between "animate" and "inanimate" nouns. These classes of nouns are termed "gender" and its from the masculine/feminine split that the word came to be applied to an individual's sex.

I think if a woman has an XY, it's because she's technically male, but her body doesnt respond to any male hormones, so it defaults to female.
