Today is the anniversary of Leonardo DaVinci's death.

Cromotar (thank you for this tidbit!) mentioned it in another thread, but I think it's deserving in its own right of a thread.
Wow, in 14 years time it'll be the 500th anniversary of LDV's demise.
What's your favourite Leonardo invention?

What's your favourite Leonardo invention?
And another question: what original inventions of his do you still use today?
Sorry if I don't know a good answer to your question. I'd have to say: "his use of atmosphere in his paintings and drawings", but I don't think that qualifies as an invention. Sorry. Ooh, or maybe this: his "Renaissance-man", you know, the picture with the man in some sort of circle, that defines the best proportions for all parts of the human body. That was kind of a big deal in the world of graphics and arts at that time, I believe.

His concept of what is now known as the helicopter demonstrated amazing insight for someone in his time.
Not to mention "the DaVinci Code!" :D

^Vitruvian man.^
That's it - thanks friend... Had the poster here somewhere, couldn't find it... Saved my life, you did... *snif* Anyhow, big invention, me thinks...
About that helicopter. As far as I know he didn't actually invent that: the automation-principle was already known, he just built one - sorry, tried and failed to build one. We have to give props for Sikorsky for a model that actually works (get it? "props" - "propellors" eh? eh? pff... It's monday, so cut me some slack  )
