Rape is wrong, no matter what, and raping an infant is just disgusting. The only upside to the whole situation is that kids don't start to form memories until 4, so if the kid survives and is alright physically, they will have no memory of the incident.

I'm a South African. I think these actions are deplorable, but the people who do this have beenn misled (not excusing their actions at all... And remember, there is a lot more stigma and fear surrounding AIDS in SA than in the west, so a diagnosis may well drive someone over the edge.

look at the conditions in south africa. look at the epidemic of aids. imagine being a man who had no idea of HOW he got it, but there it is and he knows hes going to die. and its not just him, his wife has it too. what will happen to his orphaned children? sent to an institution (if they are lucky) where they will never know family life, maybe never be picked up due to the overcrowded conditions, never be loved....

he has heard he can do one horrible unthinkable thing in order to be saved. he does it not because he is an evil hateful man but because he thinks its his one chance to save himself and his children.

African blacks make up the majority of those people ignorant enough to beleive that sex with a virgin somehow cures HIV.

Also, this is actually very, very old news. It has been on our news I think a year ago, including reports, et cetera.

All in all, this is partially due to a lack of education and political games being played. As long as party leaders think of their 'power base' before the wellfare of a significant portion of that base, we will see no improvement.
