Opposites or perversions?

Do you believe that there are absolute opposites, or just perversions?

(i.e., hot is not the opposite of cold; it is simply cold being warmed
lies are not the opposite of truth; they are simply truth that has been twisted)

Does this apply to everything, or just some things?

I can see hot being cold warmed, but what if cold is hot cooled?

But a lie is not always a truth that has been twisted. If I say I have purple skin with orange polka dots, then thats just a plain old lie. Not a bit of truth in that statement to twist.

But if you truly believe that you have purple skin with orange polka dots, and you say so. Is it lying.

I think there is lying, omition of certain facts and twisting of the truth. Choose your poison.

It's really all a matter of definition of knowledge by language, I'm sure I could answer your question if I went to an accurate dictionary, and saw if it fitted themold.

Both hot and cold are relative to our senses, and to an extent our personal perception takes a part.

the term 'no' for example is considered antithetical to 'yes'.

Both. There are some things that are completely antithetical to each other, but a lie can be a truth that is twisted.

As someone said earlier, in most situations, "yes" is exactly opposite "no," but not always (as in the case of this question, when both could be correct).

My left hand is the opposite of my right hand, for example. It is not a perversion of my right hand, nor is my right hand a perversion of my left hand. They're just opposites.

However, the most effect lies contain a bit of truth.
