Best Era

Just so y'all know, I'm American, so on some of these, I might be a little bias as they were good for America but not so good for the rest of the world.

To me though, I think it's the swing age.

I think the best age was the ancient age of Rome and Greece. Things were so much simpler, all you had to worry about was war, and that's not a big decision when all you have to do is swing a sword.

Gah that period scares me if truth be known, the hippie on I mean.

The swing era to me was a time of simplicity meets conveniance. There was enough technology so things woudln't take forever, but it wasn't so complicated that we're all just messed up in our own lives. Plus, I just love the general culture. I'd love to know my grandmothers memories on the time, that's how obsessed I am with the 40's.

The 50's had slight differences but was also pretty good and I'd love to know my aunts memoeries on the time, like in more detail than what she tells me.

I was going to say ancient greece kind of times...

Before christianity came about and fucked things up. The romans basically assimilated themselves culturally to the greeks anyways... but then along comes christianity and the dark ages and bye bye progress.

Either that or hippies. You've got to love hippies. :)

I agree that those times were best, but I disagree that christianity screwed it up, and also, DAMN ALL HIPPIES TO HELL!

They don't scare me, but they are a stain on humanity. Stupid peace loving, free spirited, long haired people who just want to lounge around and smoke weed. I'm an Imperialist by the way. :)

No I'm not a European, Canadian actually. And yes, I would like the war veteran with no spirit better.

The fact that almost the entire world was engulfed in a conflagration of a kind previously unknown doesn't mar the era for you a tad, no?

Oh my goodness...wow...as if Christianity was just suddenly invented. That's really intelligent right there. Mmmhmmm.

I'd have to say the middle ages. I know they were extremely tough, but I'm obsessed with the medieval... Their clothes and weapons were pretty awesome, and they had to think on their own. Nothing modern invented, and many plagues there were, but it still fascinates me. Knights...mmm.

Swing,....

Jesus Pancake Flipping Christ!

Typical young conservatives longing for the time when the White man was still king. When Black People and Latinos knew the art of the broom, the shoe shine, the broad smile as they said "Yes Sir!", and how to make themselves invisible when White people wanted them that way. Yes back in the Swing era you could call a A Black man a "Boy" and he had to take it or get lynched.

Yes the Swing era, back when a woman knew here place and it was either on the dance floor or bare foot, pregnant and chained to a sink.

The Swing era sucks, just as bad as Young Republicans who listen to Swing music suck.

I'm not talking about world affairs, I mean the culture, of America at least. It's sad, but because of that war, by the mid to late 40's, the culture was in full bloom. I get what you're saying though and yeah that really does put a damper on it. To me, the only good consequence of the war was America going back to the Americans can do anything phase that illustrated American life during the roaring 20's and the return of mass American pride.

I just love it how people always assume that a white person longs for the time of when they were "superior".

What I'm about to say might be really offensive, but whoever right that needs to hear it. Grow up. I've got news for you. It's not white people keeping racism alive anymore, it's black people. Living off the racist past, it might be unitentionally, but none the less, fulling an equal racist black population. I'm not racist and I don't like to be branded as one, especually when I have a black girlfriend.

And you do realize that during the swing era, women were feuling the economy better than men were. They weren't put in any place. My grandmother loved the dance floor. She had to drag my grandfather out so they could go dancing.

And by the way, more black people were known for swing music than white. Besides, swing is just good music.

Actually, that was a milestone for segregation. Elenor Rosevelt begin to get into civil rights and trying to undo the south. People like Ella Fitzgerald also began appealing to white masses.

Yeah got the bit that you were "White" though. Good luck on the multi racial relationship, I hope you aren't carrying more baggage than you know. By the way Ella was Beebob and that's an advanced form of Jazz not "Swing".

Pre-Christian Europe. Specifically, pre-Christian northern Europe.

Or maybe the lands the US occupies now, but before the Europeans arrived.
