Pretty boys are so over!

BY CELESTE KATZ
DAILY NEWS STAFF WRITER

Women are now looking for men that are more Russell Crowe...

...than Jude Law.

This goes out to all the guys who spend hours perfecting their hair, their clothes and their overall hipness: Stop it.
A survey on the "ideal" man found that women have gotten over the ultra-primped, perfectly coiffed, metrosexual man.

The Harris Interactive survey, commissioned for Dodge Trucks, showed ladies are swooning for either rough-hewn figures like Russell Crowe and Vin Diesel or classically masculine gents like Clive Owen.

Guys like David Beckham, Johnny Depp and Jude Law may be handsome, but they don't seem to represent women's real wants.

In short: Clint Eastwood is in. Hugh Grant, out.

But guys, this news isn't an excuse to give up on grooming completely.

Sure, women overwhelmingly want a guy who buys shampoo at the grocery store, not at a fancy salon. Still, they want you to buy the shampoo somewhere.

Sheila Ellison, editor of the 2004 anthology "If Women Ruled the World," called for a happy medium between a man focusing on keeping himself presentable and spending Sunday fixing the car.

"We don't want a man to say, 'I just got a manicure, so I can't do the lawn today,'" she said.

On that note, most ladies are not into you sitting next to them at the nail shop either: Sixty-one percent said they'd rather have a man with work-roughened hands, compared with the 39% who like a guy with polished paws.

"We have a lot of women looking for a real 'guy guy,' not someone that looks prettier than them, that has better clothes than them," said Robin Webber, a marketing coordinator for 8-Minute Dating, a dating service. "They want to have the nice stuff and have the guy say, 'You look pretty.'"

As far as your spare time, guys, bag the mall.

A solid 72% of women would like to see you doing home-improvement projects during your time off.

Given choices, females surveyed said they'd like to see their mate manning the grill, fishing and even watching sports rather than critiquing art at a museum.

Just 10% would like you to spend your day off buying clothes, and only 9% approve of time with a personal trainer.

Lesley Jane Seymour, the editor of Marie Claire, said the style pendulum may simply be swinging back to more traditional gender roles.

"If you're walking down the street and you're not sure who the guys are whistling at - you or your boyfriend - you're in trouble," she said.

Ladies, whom do you find gets your attention? Pretty boys, or Rugged types?

If it doesn't matter, why don't they marry some dude making $25 dollars an hour working on engines?

Besides being about love, marriage is a financial partnership. From what I hear Beckham is a huge earner, Posh has some money, but nowhere near his worth. Posh married a super rich guy and now she is super rich.

My ex-wife took me to the freaking cleaners. As the song says "She got the goldmine, I got the shack". I'm just a little bitter towards the whole marriage thing.

Articles like this are always a load. Women want what they've always wanted and that's a complex mix of the biology of reproduction and social programming. Essentially they want a male who can deliver the whole package of good genetic material and security. How they recognize this in a male has a lot to do with social programming.

Some will go for a strong Alpha male, some will go for something less than an Alpha male with an Alpha bank account. There is nothing wrong with this, it doesn't mean they're gold diggers, it just has to do with how they size up the security of the "Nest" issues. Deep down we are still animals that breed and this has everything to do with how we choose our partners, regardless of even if we want children.

*giggles at all then men claiming to know exactly what women want*

Money and looks are way down on the list for me. I have always been the breadwinner anyway, so I dont need their money. If a man can make me laugh and gets my sense of humor, is respectful of himself and others, intelligent and passionate....then he's golden.

Oy.

What women want varies by generation and age.

Right now, there's a huge number of young women who're being influenced by anime. They're going to want girly guys UNTIL the counter-culture kicks in. Then they'll want the exact opposite. After that, they'll want pretty boys again, after that, well, you get the idea.

It's a cycle, not a direction.

I'd just like to point out the fact that this survey was commissioned by Dodge Trucks. We are talking about a company that makes its money off of selling ruggedness.

So what do we have? We have a truck company that models itself on the ideal of ruggedness, of course. The logic: women want rugged men. What's more rugged then a big Dodge truck?

THEREFORE: Go buy the Dodge truck, splatter it with some mud and muck (maybe some deer blood too, for good measure) and wait for the ladies to throw themselves at you, you rugged sonofabitch, you.

Yeah, well that makes more sense, I think. I take a look at the guys in long term relationships and they don't really fit the stereotypical lumberjackish "rugged" sort of look/attitude.

Ah'm a lumberjack and ah'm okay. Ah sleep all night and ah work all day. Ah cut down trees, ah eat my lunch, ah go to the lavatory.

was hugh grant ever "IN" ?

I could hardly be interested in women that found this twitching, blinking, stuttering, bed-headed nitwit attractive.

I like to think that women are more attracted to men that are easy to look at, but more so men that have confidence in themselves without being cocky. Capable but a little humble. Firm but gentle.

Clint Eastwood was always in.
