I saw the movie yesterday. I highly recomend it. Seemed to be over fast, but it was a full length movie. Hilarious.

They left out a lot in my opinion... but maybe we need to hold off on discussion until more have had a chance to see it.

I agree that they left out a lot of the book, but the part they showed was genius. I particularly liked the yarn people scene.

I think everyone did! That was just awesome! And the falling sperm whale... yeah... it was just like I imagined it in my head.

I just saw it a few hours ago. I'm wondering how they made it as if they made it in the 70s.

lol, and the church scene. They all pulled out tissues and the head guy did the wipe-nose "sign-of-the-cross equivalent"

I did too. Well H2G2 was written in the 70s.

I enjoyed Alan Rickman doing the voice of a depressed robot.

That I laughed at too... but mostly cause it was soooo like some churches I had been to in my lifetime. We hold our noses clogged and unclean for you...

I enjoyed Alan Rickman doing the voice of a depressed robot.

Actually, I looked at the credits to see if it was really him, and unless I went completely dyslexic, then it said someone else did the voice of Marvin... It was wierd cause I swear that it WAS Alan Rickman. Loved him in Dogma.

Never read the book, and I'm glad. Just like with Lord of the Rings. Because I won't have that feeling of "they left so much out." I'll see the movie and be entertained by it, and won't be left with comparisons. On that note, I'm thinking of seeing the movie pretty soon, I hope it's good.

I loved the book, and I loved the movie too, and the radio script, and the other radio script, the first movi was a little iffy though. The Key thing to watching HHGTTG after reading the book (or experiencing it in any other media) is that there are at least four versions, all of them written by Douglass, and not one of them agrees with any other version one hundred, or even 70 percent, in fact some versions openly contradict each other, why should the new movie be any different?

It was Allan Rickman. I didn't see the credits, but they must have screwed up.

Edit: I know why. Someone (Warwick Davis) was in the costume for Marin, so he's the one listed in the credits. Allan Rickman did the voice.

Perhaps. Or maybe I did get dyslexic trying to read that damn tiny print so close to the screen.

I think I can solve your Marvin confusion:

Alan Rickman did the voice of Marvin, but Warwick Davis (legendary "short person" of such great films as Return of the Jedi and Willow) wears the Marvin costume.

It wasn't even worth rushing home for. The Dalek was rubbish.

I saw the film tonight and to be honest I wasn't overly impressed.

It had some good gags in it and some very nice surrealist humour but it lacked connection - there was no overall plot and few connections just misplaced scenes shoved in at random. Although certain scenes (if put into isolation) were superbly crafted, the film itself was sloppy and badly put together. The Guide references, some of the best bits in the book, seemed badly placed and often broke up the flow of the movie at terribly inappropriate moments.

The acting was of a generally good quality as were the graphics (the world factory was wow) so, by the standards of what comes out of Hollywood, it was quite a good film overall.

However did it match my expectations? No, it wasnt as nearly funny as I had hoped and considering the primary function of the film was comedy, I consider this to be a pretty big flaw.

The PLOT is all about Arthur, and coming to terms with things, or something like that.

And all good, though they missed the "Mostly Harmless" bit.

Your name would suggest you to be of UK origin (though I'm not good at telling where people are from by their screen names) so it surprises me mildly that you didn;t find it funny, the trouble with the comedy in the movie was that, although some of it was low enough for Americans, it was mostly british type humor, which I quite like

My friend Cat has a theory: She thinks that A) Ford was hitting on Arthur the whole time (well, she has a bit of a point, if you look closely....), and B) Arthur is "too straight to be straight, he has to be in the closet".

Thus, she says that Arthur + Trillian is a bad idea, because it should be Arthur + Ford, "obviously".

me: "He's obviously madly in love with Trillian!"
Cat: "No, see, he's in the closet, he's faking."

One of my biggest problems with the film is that they never really explained how important towels are, therefor, for people who hadn't read the books, Ford is running around like an idiot screaming and waving his towel for no reason for most of the movie.

But, didn't it not come up until later? It's been a long time since I read the series..

that aint important, he still looks like an idiot waving the towel...its not as funny as it would be if they explained it.....what they really needed to do was base it more on the books, they were a lot better......i liked the dolphin song tho :D

Well, it would be nice if that were true. Adams really ment for Arthur and Trillian to be together, it says so in the books. And besides, if Arthur was gay, then why did he immediatly start hitting on Trillian at the party?

But I can see your friends point on Ford. Ya know that big thing with the hairy legs he was apologizing to on that one planet? The one with the people who worshiped that dude that supposedly sneezed the universe out of his nose? The movie didn't ever specify what gender that thing was.

It is Douglas Adams' masterpeice. My favorite book in the "trilogy." I really hope the BBC, or someone, is willing to make that many sequals.

We do need to reallize that Adams was not here to finish the film. It would have been much better had he still been alive.
