Who else loves this song? I'm listening to it right now and I'm trying to figure out if there's a subliminal message hidden it...

I think it's just a story that Freddy made up, and tells obscurely, probably with references to his life... But that's just me.

I soviet Russia, Bohemian Rhapsody listens to you!

...Don't listen to it for a hidden message, you'll only ruin it for yourself. Yes it is a great song.
the best, in fact.

Yes, it's a great song, but to quote Queen themselves, there were never any intentional subliminal messages in any of their songs.
Bohemian Rhapsody IMHO is Freddie's version of an operetta.

If you have A Night At The Opera, check out The Prophet's Song - it's a Brian May composition, and I think absolutely mindblowing, especially considering it's over 30 years old.

I'm pretty sure the subliminal message in MOST Queen songs was that Freddy was gay. Seriously, Queen was great. Has anybody heard about the "new Queen"? I heard a story that they got Paul Rodgers to be the new singer. For those that don't know, he was the singer for Bad Company. Should be an interesting new sound for Queen.

I killed that song in high school. I tried reading so much narrative into Bohemian Rhapsody. It rawks nonetheless. I love their sense of theatre - the way they spliced opera and rock together somehow elevated rock to the same cultural status as high art.

I also love this song. It's one of my all time favorites, actually.

Ugh. It's not a bad song, but I've heard it far too many times. I had the misfortune of being in my high school marching band, and they sung it to death on bus rides. I no longer like the song as a result. It's alright, but i'm goddamn sick of it. And I think it's a bit overrated. I've seen it called an 'operetta' in this thread, yet in the hundreds upon hundreds of times that I've heard it I have yet to discern a plot. Furthermore, an 'operetta' by definition requires the piece to have seperate characters who sing to one another: I can't see this in Bohemian Rhapsody beyond traditional background 'answer' phrases to certain lines or groups of lines, like when they're arguing to 'let him go.'

Ick... This song is just so annoying now. Overplayed and far too many people think it's the greatest song on the face of the planet. I can't stand Queen.

No, that's already to have been proven to be in Bobby Vinton's "Blue Velvet".

I've always thought it was a song about Freddy Mercury coming to terms with being Gay. Still the song plays well with all teenaged angst and alienation.

My buddies and I were all 16 when the song first came out and we cruised Saturday nights with it allways on the radio. Most of my old friends would later go on the become bisexual or gay, I blame Queen. :D

Is this the real life-
Is this just fantasy-
Caught in a landslide-
No escape from reality-
Open your eyes
Look up to the skies and see-
I’m just a poor boy,i need no sympathy-
Because I’m easy come,easy go,
A little high,little low,
Anyway the wind blows, doesn’t really matter to me,
To me

Mama,just killed a man,
Put a gun against his head,
Pulled my trigger,now he’s dead,
Mama,life had just begun,
But now I’ve gone and thrown it all away-
Mama ooo,
Didn’t mean to make you cry-
If I’m not back again this time tomorrow-
Carry on,carry on,as if nothing really matters-

Too late,my time has come,
Sends shivers down my spine-
Body’s aching all the time,
Goodbye everybody-I’ve got to go-
Gotta leave you all behind and face the truth-
Mama ooo- (any way the wind blows)
I don’t want to die,
I sometimes wish I’d never been born at all-

I see a little silhouetto of a man,
Scaramouche, scaramouche will you do the fandango-
Thunderbolt and lightning-very very frightening me-
Galileo,galileo,
Galileo galileo
Galileo figaro-magnifico-
But I’m just a poor boy and nobody loves me-
He’s just a poor boy from a poor family-
Spare him his life from this monstrosity-
Easy come easy go-,will you let me go-
Bismillah! no-,we will not let you go-let him go-
Bismillah! we will not let you go-let him go
Bismillah! we will not let you go-let me go
Will not let you go-let me go
Will not let you go let me go
No,no,no,no,no,no,no-
Mama mia, mama mia, mama mia let me go-
Beelzebub has a devil put aside for me,for me,for me-

So you think you can stone me and spit in my eye-
So you think you can love me and leave me to die-
Oh baby-can’t do this to me baby-
Just gotta get out-just gotta get right outta here-

Nothing really matters,
Anyone can see,
Nothing really matters-,nothing really matters to me,

Any way the wind blows....

some of it looks like an AIDs reference if you have too much time on your hands.
And no idea of chronology.

Mama,just killed a man,
Put a gun against his head,(try not to think about it too much :S)
Pulled my trigger,now he’s dead,(There it is!!!)

Hey, I think I've heard of that song before. Isn't it the one by that band Queen? Yeah, they rock. Too bad they're so underrated. I've never met anyone that liked them.

Let me go find the lyrics so I can expose you all to the goodness of this song (you've never seen the lyrics). I doubt they'll be on any of the big lyrics sites, though. I'll have to dig deep.
