I am getting pretty sick of science. More moon bases and space stations less torturing animals!

No, not really. Animal research that could save millions of human lives is a necessity. It should be performed under strict guidelines, of course, and for no longer than needed.

*reads article* Wow, killing the ones that have actual potential as lifeforms. Really ruddy smart there, NIH.

Glad I'm not the only one who found that part disturbing.

For the most part, it's not surprising. Unsettling and vaguely creepy, yes, but not surprising.

The part that really worries me is possibility of an animal developing higher-level thinking. Not to metion the ethical dilemma inherent in creating such a thing, we could end up with another smart species to compete with by accident.

There was a book I read not too long ago called Gun, with occasional music. Sounds alot like the 'Evolved' animals they used in the book. Oh nuclear fire cleanse this world before we destroy our humanity.

Oh boy! Frankenanimals... Think they'll know "FIRE BAD!" or will we have to teach them?

What? It's not that bad. They've been at it for years and this could save millions of human lives. Come on you kill mice and rats with traps everyday. And you eat sheep. What's so different about this? And about them exterminating those mice that exhibit much higher functions resembling those of humanity..............think about it for a moment. Would you want to be trapped in the body of a mouse? Even though it's not a direct neural transplant but it's damned close. If it weren't for these guys a good portion of us would be dead. Although a good portion of us would also still be alive. Hehe. (And what I meant was scientists in general)

A Theoretical Scenario: Could the mixing of genes between us and animals make us susceptable to all kinds of animal viruses we are at this point immune to?

Personaly, I think it would be a good scenario for a Made-for-TV Movie based on fictional scientific premises. I seriously doubt this could happen in reallity.

Does anybody think this could actually happen, or is it just a good plot for B-Movie?

Excellent book. Jeremy Lethem is great (most of the time).

Motherless Brooklyn is a masterpiece.

Does anyone wish to explain why they find this "disturbing" or worthy of all the hand waving?

Or do you just want to continue wailing and gnashing your teeth.
